Topic: Managing removable hard drive for music library

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I am having an issue with my laptop and my removable hard drive...
when i plug in the drive, it typically is drive F:, but recently i plugged it in and it comes up E: The problem comes up when you search the history is logged under F: drive, so the songs show up duplicated and the one that shows up on the other drive isnt found. Very annoying.
i guess the question is, i like referring to the history at times, but i dont play from it. How can i change my browser to NOT search the history folders so that no matter what the drive is called when plugged in, it wont find duplicate songs?
Any thoughts?

The way most pc's work is they allocate the drive letters in order in which they are plugged in.

My suggestion would be to assign the drive letter yourself. By using the COMPUTER MANAGEMENT tool in XP or Vista.

Search on google for how to do this.

remember to plug it into the same port everytime.

+1 on this. if it helps, mark the port with a dab of coloured paint, and same for the lead..

I have been pluging it into the same spot in the past, i will check that this time too. The main thing is i like viewing the history, i can save past parties and refer to them for ideas sets etc, but i dont want to browser to search the history. Only the selected drive. Does anyone know of a way that the history can stay so that it can be viewed but not be searched through the browser? Even if you move or had to rename a file, it will find the hostorical file as well. Creates issues i find. i dont move files unless have to and even changing names unless i have to.

I mounted my drive in Windows. That way no matter what letter windows assigns to my external, it always shows up as C:\mounted music\.... Just a suggestion. I think it is in Admin tools. I am not sure anymore. I will check when I get home and let you know.
