I have 14 LED par lights which are 6 channels each. Can I still use something like the Chauvet Obey 3 for them even though that DMX controller is a 3 channel unit? I have an opportunity to pick it up brand new for $30 but if it won't work with 6 channel lights then I won't waste my money. Thanks all!

Most DMX fixtures have lower channel modes then their maximum channels. Chances are they work in 1,2,3,4,5, or 6 channels.
That controller looks like it will only control 3 channels with one fixture. So, you can have all the fixtures with the same address, daisy chained together. This will put them all at the same color, intensity, etc.
I would recommend a USB dongle and software like Freestyler, before such a limited controller.
If you would rather have a hardware controller, I would find one that supports more.
I use an Enntec OpenDMX USB interface with Freestyler. This also has a plugin for virtual DJ that supports sending information from VDJ to the DMX software, if you really want to amp up your show.

I actually have a test plugin I created that uses a cheap DMX dongle from eBay to directly control LED PAR cans with a beat synced colour fade directly from VDJ. I was considering turning into some inbuilt DMX control.

That sounds neat for simple shows when I wouldn't want to progam a bunch of scenes for a venue.
