I kept VDJ7 on my system along with version 8.
Anything new that I added, I also added to version 7.
Added some new tracks in 8, went to 7 and shows nothing as
being analyzed. VDJ 8 is fine.
This is on a PC. with external drive.
Any suggestions on how to recover version 7?

Consider 8 & 7 a separate program. If you analyze a song in 8, you also need to analyze in 7.

Yes true, that's what I have been doing.
All songs were previously analyzed in version 7 as
I used it for a few years.
Added 8 and re analyzed in 8. So both version 7 & 8 were analyzed.
Every time anything added to 8, I would add to 7 as & analyze it.
I added a few to 8 as usual, and when I opened 7 the whole drive
shows as not analyzed

When you analyze in 8, provided your not doing a ton at a time, try going through them and clicking on write tag. Then try re-load tags in 7. May or may not work.

Tags are written in 8. Then in 7 I do a rescan so all the tags etc are written.
Everything was previously scanned in 7 prior 8 ever coming out.
Version 7 was working fine.
When 8 came out I installed it, keeping 7 on the system, again everything
worked fine in both version 7 & 8.
The disappearance of all the tags only happened in 7,not version 8.
All files in 8 are fine with all the correct information.
I just want to get everything back in version 7 as it was initially.

VDJ 7 key detection leaves much to be desired.
Stick with VDJ 8 key analysis.
I see no need to use VDJ 7?

The only thing I can guess is that your database for 7 became corrupted or erased. V8 does do backups when there is an error or corruption. 7 does not. If you have a previous backup, you can try that. If you do not, then you will have to rebuild it. The above mentioned tool would be the fastest way to get the information back.

Is it possible that your external hdd driver letter has changed somehow?
Version 8 is able to ignore the drive letter, so changing it won't affect the v8 database on your external.
But v7 isn't able to do so. Therefore the drive letter has to be the same.

I will give the database conversion tool a try after the weekend.
Just want to be sure the version 8 database doesn't get messed up.
The drive letter did not change.
Thanks everyone.

If you have any problems with the tool, just let me know.

Tried the converter, but must be doing something wrong. I get nothing.
In addition, I now have a second external drive (which is a duplicate)
the same thing happened. Strange because I opened version 7 last night
to check for a song that was missing in version 8,and it was fine.

You may want to check for drive disconnects, cable issues, drive errors
I wonder if your drive is disconnecting and reconnecting.

Does not seem like it disconnected, as the drive continued to appear
in VDJ.
How would you check if it is disconnecting, and possible causes?

The windows event viewer would show you.
Possible causes could be a damaged port, bad USB cable, too much power draw if the drive is bus powered, or a failing drive.

What do you mean by saying you get nothing?

Did you check if a file was created next to the v7 databases with the same name (VirtualDJ database v6.xml) + a date?
The file should be "VirtualDJ database v6_dbconverter_20150529.xml".
If you got this file, you have to rename it. Remove the part "_dbconvert_20150529"

After running konverter, it showed okay
After renaming, it shows "Virtualdj database v6.xml" and "Virtualdj database v6(2).xml"
When I open VDJ7 it still has no files analyzed.

Keep in mind that there are more than 1 database if your tracks are on several drives.
You have to rename all of them.

Only the database in DocumentsVirtualDJ has to be named "VirtualDJ Database v6.xml".
All other databases, on other drives are named "VirtualDJ Local Database v6.xml"

Tracks are only on one external drive.
Yes I only renamed the on like you said.
Now I have.
VirtualDJ Database v6.xml and VirtualDJ Database v6 (2).xml
Also have Local databasev6.xml
When I ran the tool is said completed ok.
But when I opened VDJ7 still the same.

Forgot to mention the VirtualDJ Database v6 (2).xml is opened in word,
shows track as analyzed.
What is it that I am missing?

Be careful about using word to view your databases. Sometimes it is set to auto save. It can reformat and add things you don't want in there. I use notepad++ (not Microsoft notepad) to view them.

Try renaming v6.xml to v6 old.xml and then v6 (2).xml to v6.xml

Windows will do the (2) if there is already a file with that name in the directory.
