Topic: Can i use virtual DJ with my laptop as the speakers? - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

So due to neigbours and the loud volume speakers would create i woud like to know if can use my my internal speakers on my laptop rather than connecting speakers?

Okay so i have two set ups i'd like to to try - can you talk me through each them, if its possible and everything i will need to make it work and a link to the items i will need.

So i want to have a play with virtual 8 just with my laptop.... so to do this, what would i need? I'm not completely up with the terms so if you can link the things i may need to do this. Like would i need a DJ splitter cable? Can you link me to one i could get so i can plug my earphones in to listen to track ive pre set to que up while the output is playing the music out of he speakers?

Can this be done? Could you explain how it would work?

Then after that and ive got used to the software l will get a S2 kontroller mixer and with that i have the same question...... so the laptop connected to S2 mixer and laptop will also be the speakers. What woud i need for this set up? How would i pre listen now i have the mixer?
Links for what i'll need so i can look at them.

Thank you

I talked you through this the other day, plugging the splitter in will kill the laptop speaker output, you'd be better for cueing and quality just mixing in the headphones
please stick to one thread per topic

Hi mate,

I've had just had a look on how to PM you but can't see anything for messages on your profile.

So yeah, i'm new to the technical side of this so, the splitter will stop the laptop speaker output? How do i mix in the headphones? When you say mix in the headphones - thats for queueing the track up right in the headphones while the other one is out playing on the laptop internal speakers?

Tell me what i need for this?
I've got virtual DJ 8 and want to do it just through my laptop while i queue up tracks on my headphones?
And then i i will get a controller mixer. But can you talk me through how i can queue up tracks on headphones while im playing the other track through my laptop speakers?

Thanks

When I say mixing in the headphones I mean just that, left ear hears the master output, right ear hears the cue mix.

or you can just have a sound config of just headphones, and use the cue mix dial to switch from cue to master.

Okay, i've done that....(the one you showed in screenshot) i had it on tablet skin.... i dont know which is best for this method?
I'm gonna have to have a play with that and get used to hearing them both in the headphones. Thank you for that.

Is there a way of doing it where the master comes out the laptop speakers and with the other output i que it on my headphones?

no, you'd need a second soundcard, or a laptop with multiple audio outs

I've clicked it on to stereo to mono splitter like on the screenshot. But isn't it internal soundcard i've got?
What does a DJ stereo to mono splitter do? I thought i coul buy that and it would allow me to have the two seperate outputs (laptop/headphones)

So i'd need to buy a soundcard? Any links to which one i'd need/where i can get one online? And then where do you insert it?

Dean, save yourself the headache. Just get yourself a USB sound card (for pre=listening). It's so cheap less than $15.00 and all headaches will go away.

Or maybe a USB headphones that has a built sound card.

Have a good one.

Why not go on ebay and get a cheap second hand controller with built in sound card.

Ok thanks guys, so yeah i'm just trying to get the bits i need so i can get mixing and playing.
I have built in soundcard on my laptop and i need to buy another one right so i'm able to que up tracks on my headohones.

I will use the internal speakers of the laptop - so my headphones will be connected to the extenal USB card (listening to track in headphones) while the track currently playing plays out my laptops internal speakers?

Is this right? Ok, so what type of soundcard do i need. Will a basic one off amazon do for this setup?

I did a google search and come up with this post by someone ----
To be able to pre-listen to music using headphones, you will either need two sound cards or a sound card with multiple outputs, such as a 5.1 surround sound card or preferably a dedicated DJ sound card (E.g: Numark DJIO or Native Instruments Audio 2 DJ.) With a laptop, you can add a USB stick sound card that will provide you with the additional output that you need.

NOTE: In Home FREE, sound card options are limited. You will need a 5.1 card built into your computer to be able to headphone pre-listen, or use the MONO split option. For more advanced sound configuration, such as two separate cards or an external DJ sound card, you will need to purchase either VirtualDJ Basic or VirtualDJ Professional: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html

So would a basic soundcard work or do i ned a DJ soundcard like those mentioned above? And can i use this external soundcard on my free virtual DJ 8?

Once i've had a go at getting used to this and mixing through headphones. Then i will buy a mixer controller. Something like the kontroller S2 by native intstruments. Good for a beginner? Once this is set up i know i'd need to purchase virtual dj and the mixer comes built in with a souncard right to que up tracks?

Help me out guys :) fellow mixers!
Happy christmas

In VirtualDJ 8 Home Free, you are able to use any combination of sound-cards, as long as the audio setup is kept as Master+Headphones (or just Master of course)
http://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/virtualdj8/settings/audiosetup/masterheadphones.html

So if you need to route Master Output to the speakers of your laptop (or speakers connected to the Audio output of your laptop), then just an additional simple USB sound card will do the job for pre-listening (case B from the above manual link)

Thank you all very much.
So any standard soundcard would be suitable? It doesn't have to be a a specialist dj souncard?

Great that i'll be able to play a track on my laptop speakers and que up the incoming track on my headphones.
Once i have a playaround with this and get used to it i'll look at getting a mixer - i've considered the kontroller S2 as a beginner. This a good one.
And with the mixer obviously i can still play the music through my laptop and so no need for speakers. Just plug headphones into the mixer.

You could use any audio interface - but it would be better to get something decent, designed for the job.

DJ interfaces tend to be low latency, with good enough quality for playing through large PA systems. With something cheap off eBay or Amazon - who knows.

Also I'd seriously recommend you get yourself some speakers. They don't need to be loud.

Even something like Creative Gigaworks T20 (which I use at home) will be a million times better than thin laptop sound - and you won't disturb the neighbours.

When you're DJing you need to hear the music, not something that sounds like a wasp in a tin.

they can hear the bass downstairs

Then your speakers are either bigger than necessary or you have them louder than necessary. What make and model are your speakers?

Believe me, it's possible to buy speakers that sound great without being huge. It's also possible to listen adequately without shaking the floorboards.

The onboard sound of laptops is awful. I can't see how anyone could stand listening to that for more than a few minutes.

£5.99 - you're kidding me! You seriously think that's gonna be good quality? LOL don't waste your money.

Use the link posted earlier, and get yourself a DJ audio interface.

Haha!!

It's cause i read on here they said you can find basic soundcards on amazon for a few quid that will be ok to use lol.

Ok what about this one - https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA202-Audio-Interface/dp/B000KW2YEI/ref=sr_1_4?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1482977297&sr=1-4&keywords=dj+audio+interface

So with that i can just plug into my laptop usb and pop the headphones and then it allows me to pre-listen. When i get a mixer once ive tried this....will i need that soundcard to connect as one will already be in the mixer won't it. traktor S2 kontroller is one id most likely get.

Ok now for headphones whats good for mixing and under £30? Good link?

Nothing that is cheap is good. Most that is expensive is Myth! There is a sweet spot in-between. If you buy cheap it will sound rubbish, which i don't understand. Surely if one is into music, they want it to sound good.

The Novation Audio Hub is a decent interface recently on sale for £80.
Audio Technica Ath-m50 are the best headphones to price ratio. For Dj'ing you need closed back headphones.

Buying cheap will end up in the bin. Investing more will not only sound better but also retains its resale value, even if you do break it. Cheap products should not exist, people who buy them are fools. If you can't afford it, buy second hand or save harder until you can.
