I've not DJed for 12 months but often used multi-column sort, for example click "Album" then "Artist" to get tracks grouped by Artist | Album but now this results in Artist | Ttile. Whatever column I click then 2nd sort column is always "Title", eg. Album | Title, Artist | Title
It doesn't work in stable or early access b6646.

After testing again the sort only fails when Artist column is selected in the browser.
Selecting browser columns "Key | bpm" correctly gives tracks sorted by key then bpm
Similarly, these work as expected (1st column selected | 2nd column selected
Key | Album
Bpm | Album
Length | Album
But these combinations don't work, they all return the same result order, tracks sorted by Artist then Title.
Key | Artist
Bpm | Artist
Length | Artist
So the original "group by artist, album" query failed as selecting the "Artist" browser column appears to set the secondary sort column to "Title" in all cases

You are correct, sort by artist is currently always using title as secondary sort.
It looks like this has probably been this way since v8 release though.
