Topic: Separate Master / Mic recording option
Currently the Recorder (both Master REC and Mic REC buttons) writes to the same combined output file — there's no way to record Master and Mic as separate streams.

Feature request: add a "Record source" setting with options:
- Master only
- Mic only
- Master + Mic (current behavior)

Use case: recording a clean mic-only track for later mixing/voiceover while music is playing live on Master, without needing external hardware routing or a second recording app.

Would be a great addition for DJs who also do podcasts, radio drops, or live commentary.

I would also love, more options with Audio routing within VDJ.

would love to have an additional choice, Master output without mic, (in the drop down selector), with the purpose to be connected to a virtual cable for recording of music only,
while also having a the usual Master output, (with both music and mic) routed to broadcast and speakers, as done now.
(note: currently mic audio routing is controlled with 3 options in settings)
 
Do you guys not duck the music level while using the mic?

I'd certainly consider it standard practice, so that listeners can hear you clearly without you having to shout over the music. If you record a music-only signal then you'd also be recording the dips in level.

The way I've seen it done (so the dips are not recorded) is to use a "post music mix" 2nd mixer that has music on one channel and mic on the other. The broadcast (or "with mic" mix) is taken from this mixer.
 
Good point. Ducking is definitely standard for the "with mic" mix — no argument there.

The music-only feed I'm asking for wouldn't need ducking at all, since it's meant as a separate, unducked source (for later mixing/voiceover, not for broadcast). The ducked "Master + mic" output would stay exactly as it is now for live/broadcast use.

So really it's:

Master (unducked, music only) → new option, for clean recording
Master + mic (ducked, current behavior) → stays as is for broadcast/speakers

Two separate outputs, not a replacement. No extra mixer hardware needed if VDJ just exposes the pre-duck signal as a routing option.
 
To clarify the use case — it's more for fun than "broadcast quality" purposes.

Example: track is playing, someone sings along (karaoke-style) on the mic. I just want to record their vocal only, separately from the music — so I can later play it back and clown on them for singing off-key 😄

No ducking needed, no broadcast mixer setup — just a simple isolated mic recording for laughs/pranks. That's why a basic "Master / Mic / Master+Mic" routing option in VDJ (without extra hardware) would cover it perfectly.
 
I think, if you are recording directly in VirtualDJ, that may be what recordMicrophone=no is tring to achieve (I assume mic_talkover ducking is ignored as well).

If you want to record externally capture the booth out and set boothMicrophone=no (with the same assumption as before).
 
The workarounds all point outside the app — virtual cables, booth capture, a second recorder. That's the part I'd like to avoid.

VDJ already treats the mic as its own internal channel (mic FX and recordMicrophone=no both prove it). So writing that channel to a second file looks less like a new feature and more like exposing something that's already there.

Not urgent, not a complaint — just seems like low-hanging fruit for the recorder.
