It will merge the contents with whichever database you choose (i.e. if you choose to overwrite a file when specifying the VDJ database), none of the existing contents should be lost. It does however create backups everytime you choose to write the new database.

Wave files don't have official support for tags, or if they do, I've never encountered one, got any examples?
in tag and rename i wrote the tags to the files,so yes they are supported.

Just an fyi, I merged my existing VDJ XML with the new one and when I looked at the results I did lose some of the info that was in my prior VDJ XML. It was probably around 10%-15% of my work that was lost. It's not that big of a deal but I did notice it and will have to go back and rescan the BPM's..etc.
With that said, thank you Andrew87 for the great tool.
This is why this forum is so good, active users who make the software better!!!!

Hmm, I don't see why any information would have been lost, unless it's a bug in the xml parser I'm using. A backup would have been automatically created so you can revert back to the old one. When you merged the database, a new file with the same file name and then date suffix would have been created in the same directory, e.g. VirtualDJ Database v5{170908155933}.xml.
I wonder if the information is still in the database but that Virtual DJ is ignoring it because of it's issue with whitespaces. I could investigate if you sent over your database with the lost information and the backup.

Do you have any examples where data has been lost? I had a quick look but there were more entries in the new databases than the original so it's hard to see what's different been lost between the files.

The Funkymix series was the data that was lost. I've tried it multiple times and most data converts over except some of the funkymix files and I can't figure out why?.

The data is in there but the layout of the database has for some reason gone a bit funny, I think due to the extra whitespace from the original database. In most programs this wouldn't be a problem, but Virtual DJ's XML parser is very specific in what it looks for. I'll have a look at writing a proper output method so this won't be an issue.

Built-in support for FLAC with metadata (tag) reading capabilities would rock - I've DJed with FLAC files for quite some time now, and this was always a pain.
I use foobar2000 (http://www.foobar2000.org/) for my personal media playback, and I like the database capabilities and extensive customizability of the software, so when DJing I actually would make up playlists in that program and use the database search (a 3rd party component), and then drag the FLAC files (and all manner of other formats too) into VirtualDJ.
That is very handy having some ability to import FLAC metadata into the database until Atomix gets around to it.
Personally though, I'd rather that they fixed their aspect ratio problems (i.e. complete lack of support for it) before getting to this, but it shouldn't really be an awfully difficult thing to implement - most modern professional audio software does have good support for FLAC these days.

Hello,
This is my first time on any kind of forum. My situation, which has driven me to the edge of despair, propelled me into this action. I have recently purchased Numark Cue 5, aka VDJ. I bought this on impulse, whilst buying some hardware, but felt reassured due to its reputable position in this field. I am in the early stages of digitizing my entire music collection, CD's & Vinyl and have chosen to store them in FLAC format, on massive NAS Drives accompanied by a music server. However, I have also recently entered the world of DJ'ing, where I was invited to play the music at a show. It went so well, that I've been invited onto the team to provide the pre, post and change-over music. The venue owner was also impressed and is preparing an offer of my own slot! So, I now have the need to store my music at audiophile quality for my home system and for portability to take on the road, as required. Enter Numark Cue 5. Alas, it does not cite direct support for FLAC. I have downloaded what I think to be the FLAC codec, from sourceforge. But it appears to be a FLAC editing tool for windows. The selection of 'add' codec within the config window does not show flac on the list. Can anyone please advise me on how I may source and load/import the flac codec into Numark Cue 5? Also, can the tags be read too? A perusal of this thread suggests that it is not supported. Have I got this wrong. I really am confused now. Please help / advise.
Thanking you in advance
Steve

Andrew87,
First, your program is very useful for people using FLAC, thanks for taking the time to make it.
The latest version of the program crashes (a null exception) while updating my existing database on at least the following 2 entries:
It does not crash if generating a database file from scratch. Note that I'm using an older version of VDJ (5.0.7) and that database version is "500". I'd really have this to work as half my collection is FLAC.

I'll have a look why it's failing tomorrow if you could upload an example of a file which causes the error and your database please. Best way is to copy the two files into a new directory and add it to a zip file, then upload it to rapidshare. Thanks.

Dear Andrew87
Just a quick note to thank you for your work on the program, does exactly what I need it to in order to get extra tag information into Virtual DJ, shame they don't do it by default, guess that it'll come in time.
Just got to sort a bug or setting in my ripping software to ensure that all the tag information is included into the Flac file and I'll be sorted.
