First off, straight out of the box, Try This app. http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/

this will rid your machine of all the crap it comes bundled with...

once you're clean, go ahead and change your desktop theme to windows classic. then right click on the desktop, and choose properties then appearance, then effects... un check everything.... then close the window out...

next go and right click on your task bar, and choose properties, then taks bar tab, and select classic style. then close out.

next, go to start, then settings, then control panel, and finally, click on system. then click on advanced, then settings. in here, choose adjust for best performance..

then close out..

once you've done all this, keep your desktop clean and simple.. as soon as you choose the xp style theme, or any other theme, you're going to un-do all of your optimization. effects, animations, and such cause sound glitches.. it's a tool, save the pictures of puppies and all that for your home machine, and keep it simple on the gig machine..

make sure your direct x is up to date by downloading the direct x redistributable package from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

this will require validation, so if you have a less than legal copy of windows, fret not.. just e-mail me and I'll hook you up with the update.

next, get and install the visual basic runtimes from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7b9ba261-7a9c-43e7-9117-f673077ffb3c&DisplayLang=en

then do the dot net updates.. get these at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?pocId=&freetext=dot%20net&DisplayLang=en

this page lists three different ones . get the update 1.x, 2.0 and 3.0 and install them all...

next, get and install the jet service pack from http://www.kjamp.com/forum/download.php?d=RoxBox&name=Jet40SP8_9xNT.exe

then do a microsoft data access component update get it here http://www.kjamp.com/forum/download.php?d=RoxBox&name=MDAC_TYP2.8.EXE

then just for kicks, do the other one... just in case your app requires it..
get it here http://www.kjamp.com/forum/download.php?d=RoxBox&name=mdac_typ.exe

UPDATE!!!! I forgot one earlier, so I've added it to this list.. You also need the visual basic common controls package.. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=25437D98-51D0-41C1-BB14-64662F5F62FE&displaylang=en

after all this, you're in good shape for running virtual dj and other apps.
all of these things you just did will eliminate the following errors

vb runtime errors
crash on column sort, and colum re-order crashes
sound stuttering on column sorts, and window opening and closing
karaoke file import errors
visualization errors
direct x incompatibilities

and many other ghosts in the machine...

You're now ready to take on the world!

OK, finally I got the video crackling, popping, and any other noise to stop. I also got my computer to use less CPU usage as well. My MP3 files load in roughly +/- 2 secods. My VOB files load in about +/- 10 seconds.

I ran every test possible to get this thing to hickup which include but not limited to multiple VOB files loading at once, Sonic running all the time. Running videos for over 3 hours straight in automix with different transitions. Video affects, slideshow, text, 2d text. I also ran a 1 gig video in automix in between regular videos. I ran samples, sound affects and scratched videos.

All this testing took me about 4 hours plus computer modification time which in all took me about 4.5 - 5 hours to get everything resolved. The cpu usage never really went past 50% except for the occasional spike to about 70%... audio alone ran at about 5% - 15% depending if I ran the song after a video.

I also would like to add that I ran internet during playing videos to get my research from the forums. Man, I'm sure glad I was able to research at the same time as I was able to trim the fat off my computer.

My specs:

Vista
HP 4300+ 2.3
64 x 2
2g ram (that was increased this weak)
Nvidia 7300 GS 256 dedicated
250 HDD that I only use as back up to my music / videos
2 external drives 1x 80g drive for audio, 1x 100g drive for video

I changed the power settings to max performance and went into sub plans and changed everything that wasn't nailed down to either never or low. Then I changed the USB hubs to OFF from ( let window control usb hubs ) I unchecked all usb hubs. I also changed the page file which I have NO IDEA what it does but thanks to CSTOLL for his guidance on it. Maybe he can PM me and tell me what it does or maybe I can look it up in google, DUHHH!

I tried sky's formula of getting rid of some the services but so I printed out the directions but could not figure out which service was which. I was also afraid of messing with anything in the computer. So in all I probably turned off about 4 items. No harm so far.

I'm thinking that I left something else out but I'm brain dead now. OH YEAH, Thanks to all the DJs on Thumpin Thursday that helped me get through this process. I worked a lot more effiently today listening to the radio crew. I tell you they ROCKED THE HELL out of the radio today. I can't wait to get my chance: HINT

I guess I should be glad that I didn't get my copy of v5 yet, becuase I probably would have been playing with the software instead of problem solving my system.

TOM'S HOUSE PARTY.

I remember when my mom and dad used to throw house parties and they would stock up on food and beverages, invite everyone they knew. It was always my job to put the coats, purses, and/or personal items in the back room. Then I had to watch for my dad to give me the O.K. and that's when the party really began.

I was in charge of the music and getting people to dance. You should have seen my moves! Back then I learned r&b, dance, rap, rock, motown, doo-wop and all kinds of slow dance songs.

I was just about 9 or 10 years old then. Not much has changed since then. I'm still in charge of setting the mood and getting the party started with music and dancing.
