Hello Atomix Productions 😎🔥
I’m a 13-year-old VirtualDJ user from Vietnam.
As I mentioned before, I use custom keyboard mapping to control VirtualDJ like a real hardware controller (with custom scripting, combo FX, HOLD FX, fake FX slots, and a 7 FX stack ðŸ˜ðŸ”¥).
Today, I want to upgrade my previous idea for the Combo FX system & XY FX Pad with much more detailed and professional logic for VirtualDJ and VirtualDJ Remote.
1. The XY FX Pad Design
Below is the conceptual layout I designed for the XY FX Pad. It provides a visual guide on how the dual FX controls and dedicated buttons should be positioned:
(Please insert your image 1000002795_2.jpg here)
Dual FX Mix: It maps two effects onto a 2D grid (e.g., X-axis for ECHO, Y-axis for FILTER).
EDIT Button: Located at the top right corner to quickly swap the X/Y axes to any other compatible effects.
HOLD Button: Located at the top left corner to lock the current coordinate, allowing DJs to free up their hands for other transitions.
2. GUI Layout & Button Placement
Where to put the activation button: Atomix can place a small "Combo FX" button within the traditional 6-slot FX area, or easily fit it into any small blank/empty spaces that are currently unused in the default GUI layout.
Where the XY Pad appears: When users click this "Combo FX" button, the dedicated XY FX Pad window will appear right below the Browser (Track Selection area). This keeps the layout perfectly clean and ensures the main deck controls and 6 traditional FX slots remain untouched and 100% visible.
3. The Smart Filtering Logic (Most Important)
To make this feature work flawlessly during live mixing, the system should follow these strict rules:
The 6 Traditional Slots (Master Library): These 6 slots must stay completely open and unrestricted. Users can load ALL available effects here (including Beatgrid, Roll, Slicer, etc.) for independent, traditional usage.
The XY Pad (Smart Filter): The XY Pad will automatically filter out/blacklist all beat-aware effects (like Beatgrid, Roll, Slicer, or Loop Roll). Since these effects rely on precise beat-chopping, using them with the HOLD function on an XY pad would freeze/ruin the song's timing and break the rhythm. The XY Pad will be exclusively reserved for spatial and color effects (like Echo, Filter, Reverb, Flanger, Phaser, etc.) to guarantee seamless, error-free macro control.
VirtualDJ is the most creative DJ software I've ever used 😎
Thank you for making VirtualDJ, and I hope the Atomix team will consider this upgraded proposal!
Best regards,
