Hi guys,
I just bought a Hercules RMX and im Semi new to DJing. I want to take it to another level. Anyway. As of now i have my RMX, connected via USB and using my PC sound card as my primary sound card, while i just use the RMX as my controller. I have two questions.
First question is when i am using my current set up, i am hearing some distortion when i am using the controller (EQ's, fades, pitch controls). Why am i getting distortion? Is it because i am not using the proper set up for the controller such as using my PC sound card? It is really making for bad mixing and I am hoping its not a hardware issue.
This brings me to my second question. Is there a way to use the Hercules RMX internal sound card instead of my PC sound card with the PC being the only output? Whenever i try to use the RMX as my primary soundcard i get no sound out of my speakers.
thanks guys
if you need any other information just ask, as i am new to all this.

If you are getting distortion then this will be because something is not configured correctly. It's also likely that the sound card built into your computer may be inferior in quality to the sound card in the RMX, which is designed for DJ use.
VirtualDJ Console Edition for Hercules RMX is limited software and is only intended to work with the sound card built into the RMX.
If you wish to output the sound through your computer's speakers, please see the following FAQ page:
http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ%20LE%20sound%20through%20computer%20speakers.html

What might not be configured correctly? So if i upgrade to VDJ 7 i could get that set up to work? Also if i use VDJ with out the RMX, i get no distortion. Is that due to both sound cards conflicting?

Most likely the distortion is due to performance or configuration issues with your computer - Please see the following FAQ page for common causes and their solutions:
http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html
It could also be a bug in the old v5 version of VirtualDJ that comes with the RMX. To verify this, you can install the latest VirtualDJ Home FREE v7. This allows the DJ Console RMX to be used for 10 minutes at a time as a demo of the full Pro v7, so should be enough time to test whether you still get this issue or not in the latest version (You can restart the software as many times as you like to gain another 10 minutes Pro demo):

If you wish to upgrade to the latest full Pro v7 then your RMX entitles you to a significant discount off the cost of upgrading. You can receive this by going to the following page:

I just purchased a Hercules RMX. My Gemini cntrl six has been a nightmare. Will be running it on macbook pro. Was curious about line level indicators. I noticed that it doesn't have them on the RMX console. Can I use the indicators on the screen of virtual dj? or will this give me a false reading? New to the bigger sound gig and don't want it to sound like garbage. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi all,
I've just acquired a hercules rmx & was wondering if its possible to adjust the settings via VDJ LE? In the manual it says to to click on an icon to open the settings but i cant find what i'm supposed to be clicking on, the only option i have is to download a trial version of pro for 20 days?
Also, i've got VDJ5 & mixxx 1.10 installed - i've had a quick look around the site but does anyone have mapping settings i could download to use the rmx with mixxx? I prefer the functionality & layout of Mixxx so would like to keep using it if possible. I did plug in the RMX whilst using Mixxx & it picked it up & ran through a mapping process but I couldn't get the sound to come out. I assume i'd missed something in the settings?
Thanks

VirtualDJ Console Edition is limited software and doesn't support customised settings except during the 20 day trial of the full VirtualDJ Pro - Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/How%20do%20I%20change%20the%20skin%20or%20use%20plugins%20in%20VirtualDJ%20LE%20or%20Console%20Edition.html
Mixxx is free DJ software and is not created by us (VirtualDJ / Atomix Productions), so you will not find any mappings for it on our website. Please visit their website for further information and/or for help/advice.
NOTE: The layout in VirtualDJ can be customised to suit your own preferences in the full Pro by downloading custom skins - Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/skins.html - Also, the trial in Console Edition is of VirtualDJ v5 which is now a very old version of the software. We are now on v7.0.5b - You can download Home FREE to try out the latest version of the software (This allows MIDI controllers such as the RMX to be used for 10 minutes at a time): http://www.virtualdj.com/download/free.html

Ok - thanks for the update. I'll give the pro trial a go & see how I get on.
I had noticed version 5 was a bit behind the times. You've mentioned downloading v7 which i was considering anyway. You've stated I can only use it for 10 minutes at a time. What is the reason for this & is there a way of getting around it i.e. do i have to buy the full version? Thanks again for your help

It's because Home FREE is free software for home non-commercial use only and supports mouse/keyboard control only. Controllers such as RMX and other Pro features can be tried for 10 minutes at a time to allow users to try out the full software before purchasing. You can restart it as many times as you like to gain another 10 minutes trial. Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html
To be able to use Pro features such as MIDI controllers, full screen video, custom skins, mappings, effects and much, much more, you will need to upgrade to the full Pro version of the software: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html - Your RMX DJ Console Edition entitles you to a considerable discount (50%) off the cost of upgrading to the full Pro.

I would bring it back to the you qualified repairman and have him verify his work and test it as a MIDI controller before putting everything back together.

well heres my problem. i just got a new laptop with win7. had to get a new program from vdj so i got pro basic. works just fine but i love using my mk2 hercules board. but when i plug it in message comes up saying i cant use it with basic it well work for 10mins. any chance of getting it fixed without spending more cash

This is because you are using VirtualDJ Home FREE, Broadcaster or Basic.
These versions do not support MIDI controllers (Except for 10 minutes as a trial of the full VirtualDJ Professional) and are for mouse/keyboard use only. Please see comparison.
To be able to use MIDI controllers without any limitations, you will need to purchase or upgrade to the full VirtualDJ Professional.
