Topic: sound issues - vdj 7 + mixer?

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hello,

Firstly, im quite new to setting up sound setups, etc but pretty good at using the software and have quite good I.T knowledge but am having difficulties while doing gigs.

Heres my setup:

Laptop with virtual dj 7,
ion icue dj controller

http://www.geekiegadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/iCue.jpg

now i wire the laptop to a gemini mm 4000 mixer via headphone out on the laptop to the mixers rca line inputs on the back with the use of a headphone jack plug to phono plugs lead.

http://www.martleyelectronics.co.uk/310-341-large/stereo-jack-plug-2-rca-phono-plugs.jpg

but the sound is appauling, first nights gig went fine, second nights gig the sound was going from really quiet to sounding underwater, and the levels seemed nearly in the red all the time on the mixer even though the sound wasnt even that loud. The inhouse sound was also cutting out in places due to overloading.

Am i right in thinking that virtual dj's internal mixer controlled by the icue is interfering with the external hardware mixer gemini mm 4000.
or do i need an actual better external soundcard instead of relying on the inbuilt one?

is there any way to just disable virtual djs internal mixer as i only need the sound level bars on the icue / software for changing tracks.

I must also mention, the bar i dj also uses there own pc with an external soundcard going straight into the mixer, but primarily uses itunes, and this sounds fine with no issues, so i am presuming its a virtual dj mixer / software setup issue?

thanks for the help, sorry if this seems a silly post, im new to all of this. thank you

You have probably plugged your laptop into a phono input of the mixer, which is designed for the signal from a traditional vinyl turntable. Or you have connected it to an input that is switchable between line and phono. If there is a switch for the channel on the mixer, check that it is set to line.

If you plug a line level signal (I.e: From your laptop) into a phono level input you will get very loud distorted sound as a result.

For best results, using a proper dedicated multi-channel DJ sound card such as Numark DJIO is strongly recommended, especially for live performance.

Also, iCue comes with Numark Cue LE 6, not VirtualDJ 7.

Please register your VirtualDJ 7 serial number on the page http://www.virtualdj.com/users/edit.html and then download the latest version from the Download Center: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html

If you have not purchased VirtualDJ then please support the software and its future development by purchasing it: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html - If your iCue came with Numark Cue LE v6 included then you can upgrade at a discount by entering your Cue LE serial number in the box provided.

it worked fine the other day when i set the output in the audio settings as "external mixer" instead of straight to speakers.

would a external soundblaster live 24 bit be better than a laptops internal audio? i have one of these spare.

I must note, that i cannot register serial as it is the one the bar owns for there system, not my own personal system.

You said the laptop was your setup, and that the bar also has their own PC....

It is only not working correctly because you have not configured it correctly.

VirtualDJ works perfectly for the vast majority of users.

Please see the advice above.

Most likely you have plugged it into a phono (Turntable) input, which is why you are getting the bad sound (This would happen with any line level device (E.g: CD player) plugged into a phono input.))

Also, check your computer for any performance/configuration issues: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html
