Apologies in advance, it's another "is this good enough" posts....

In short, we're talking about:

Lenovo Ideapad Y500
Intel Core i7 3630QM,
8Gb RAM,
1Tb HDD
and Nvidia GeForce GT650 2GB graphics.

My knowledge of video cards is pretty non existent, and benchmark figures don't tell me anything useful when I don't know what is considered to be "good"! Would this be a suitable contender for doing VDJ video stuff? Input from somebody who knows about video cards will be very appreciated!

Cheers all.... :)

I'd rate that video card 10/10 so yes it's good enough if not overkill lol. As long as you're using the Nvidia gpu for video mixing and not the intel hd graphics you'll be fine.

I don't know much beyond specs when it comes to laptops, but that one looks kick ass. Theres allot of uploads on YouTube about that model and its features look very nice, love the red backlit keyboard.
You shouldn't have a problem pushing VDJ with it. My rule of thumb is any gaming machine with NVIDIA GT650 & higher with dedicated 2GB+.
Looks like 2 USB3 and 1 USB2? Keep that in mind for your set up, midi, ext HD, Dicer, etc.
In summary, I would buy this laptop.

I own one, and yes it is a really good machine. Worth to buy.

Well, the masses have spoken! Put my money where my mouth is, it should be with me on Wednesday... thanks for the advice guys... :)

give us an update when you get it ......

when i get a new comp i spend a day or two lobotomizing it, then a week or two getting used to it/

trying everything out/ seeing how hard you can push it, only then gig with it when it has proved itself somewhat, at home......

Likewise Chuck - a new machine always seems to come with so much unnecessary junk installed on it, plus windows 8 is completely new to me. Lots of experimentation needed I think!

Only thing i´ve upgraded was changing m-sata drive for biger(256GB) originaly is instaled only 9 GB m-sata disc for speed up system. Than i´ve instaled system on 256 GB m-sata and 1TB disc i have now for videos. DVD´s with system i´ve got for free from lenovo after call. It takes about a week.

Regards Tomas.

Well fair play to Amazon, that was quick! New toy turned up this morning...
