Topic: Help required - VGA/HDMI question for karaoke

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hi all

I'm a newbie to posting on the forums but have been lurking a bit recently so i know there are lots of people with lots of knowledge here that I am hoping can help with my query.

I've recently taken over doing a karaoke in a pub and use virtual dj to run this. All good with that and love using the software.

My problem is - I have been using a small tv to run this which is connected by VGA to VGA. The owner has asked me to see if I could get it running on a few of the TV's in the pub. I checked 2 off the tv's which had VGA slots but took the word of someone else that the 3rd tv had a VGA slot also. It tuns out it doesn't and this is the main one i want to use.

At the weekend, I ordered a VGA splitter box for running to the other tv's...tried running to one tv this evening and worked fine. Then went to run to the other one and of course, I then discover it does not have a VGA slot. Is there any way I can connect the VGA cable running from the splitter box to either the HDMI or component video on the TV that does not have the VGA slot? Is there a convertor of some type that will allow me to do this? I've looked online but getting a bit confused and not sure what I need. Only need video, do not need audio obviously as that will be running through the mixer and speakers. Looking to do this as cheaply as possible for the pub.

Any help appreciated!

Oh and i'm in the UK so any links posted...would be good if they were available here :-)

you can't go from VGA to DVI/HDMI but you can with DVI/HDMI to VGA.

So I guess you can get a HDMI BOX with multiple output (4) and use HDMI to VGA on the TV that has VGA inputs. Since the 3rd one has HDMI no need for converter. I think that should do it.

I thought about that but as I'm using an older laptop for this - it does not have an HDMI output, only VGA hence me getting the VGA splitter rather than the HDMI. Thought it was just going to be a case of plugging in to the splitter then VGA to VGA on all the TV's.

They do make converter boxes to go from VGA to Component and VGA to HDMI. Usually looking around $30 to $50 USD. Try sites like Newegg.com and Monoprice.com. One warning, some only go one way, so make sure to check.

Yes, they sell VGA to HDMI converters but DO NOT buy the cable adaptor alone, you'll be wasting your money. It will not work. Make sure when you find one on the net to make sure it comes with an electronic box which does the conversions. And the cables plug to it.

Been looking at a few on amazon. Looks like it will be:

laptop VGA output
to VGA input on the VGA splitter (then use 2 x output slots to the 2 tv's that have VGA)
on the 3rd output slot use VGA cable from VGA splitter to HDMI convertor
then HDMI cable from convertor to the HDMI slot on the tv.

Does that sound about right?? I'm not sure if i'm allowed to post links to the convertor product I was looking at

Sounds good to me.

Thank you very much everyone for your help.

I will have a discussion with the pub about it this weekend and see if they are willing to fork out the extra £20 odd quid for the convertor. Ive only been in a week and costing them money already LOL. They want to build up the karaoke and the clientele in the pub..... so I suppose they gotta spend money to make money :-)
