You can create video links in v8 by enabling the videoCreateLinkOnDrop setting in Options. Once you do this, every link you create will be saved as a new edit, so you can use the original file, or have a selection of different clips for that file.
You can also then use the video editor on your new edit to tweak it up and add to it :)

Do you know a way of removing embedded videos in 8 though? In version 7, just right click & select remove video....

Have the File type field visible in the Browser (so that you can easily tell which one is the edit - should have different icon too), and simply delete the vdjedit file. It will not delete your original file, just the edit (link)
