I have a DDJ-SZ and I am wanting to run mono output. I have tried the stereo mix plugin through the VDJ software and it does not work through my controller, just through the software on the laptop.

DDJ-SZ has a Hardware mixer so no master plugins will effect the sound. have you tried adjusting the ASIO driver settings maybe something in there will do the trick?
if there is not a software way your could always try something like this -> https://www.amazon.com/Samson-MCD2-Pro-Stereo-Passive/dp/B015OGAN8I

To run MONO on both channels 1 and 2 (right and left), you use SPLITTER (not internal sound card).
Correct setting:
Master - (sound card) - Channel 1 (mono)
Master - (sound card) - Channel 2 (mono)
*You do NOT need an actual splitter. This is only a software setting.

Did you not read what wickedmix wrote, before you posted/spammed?
The DDJ-SZ uses an "external mixer" config, so it bypasses the VDJ software mixer.
