Could anyone tell me if you can use a DJ Controller "Example Hercules" on VDJ 8? I'm using the Free version.

No, hone version will not work with hardware except for 10 minutes at a time to test. Some controllers are packaged with a LE version in the box, or you can buy a "plus" licence to use at home with one controller.
If you want to be able to use VDJ for gigs or use multiple controllers in the future then you require either a Pro licence or subscription.
