VDJ shuts down while I am playing music. I am using a MacBook Pro and Denon Prime 4. VDJ shut down 4 times about 30 minutes apart. I am assuming it is overheating, because I am playing outside in a hot climate, but I also have 2 small fans blowing underneath the laptop. what is really causing this and how can I prevent this from happening again.

If you were online at the time it should send out a crash report that can be viewed by tech support. Next step would be to open a support ticket to check.
I have yet to have virtual DJ crash on the recent builds with the Macbook pros I have running on Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur but generally it would be a driver or something conflicting in the computer itself that needs to be addressed. You can check in console to see what was reported as a problem. Here is how to do so: https://support.apple.com/guide/console/reports-cnsl664be99a/mac
Here are a few ways to check fan speed and temperature (my 2012 requires it as the GPU does not like high heat) https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-view-cpu-temp-and-fan-speeds-on-mac/
