Topic: playlist protection
Is there any other way, apart from making the m3u file write-protected in Windows, to stop VirtualDJ from modifying my playlists?

I like the clear presentation of simple m3u playlists (as opposed to the new, convoluted vdj extension playlists) because I make and edit my playlists outside of VirtualDJ.

In fact, I don't understand why VirtualDJ has to store so much information in a playlist, when it has all that information in the database it creates...

Because people move files all the time outside VirtualDJ and then they complain that their playlists don't work anymore.
So, keeping more info inside the playlist file besides the track's filename helps VirtualDj to find the missplaced / moved files again.

And, no. Playlists are not meant to be a "read only" thing.
Most users usually edit their playlists.
Yes, you may have a few playlists that you never change/edit, but for most of us editing our playlists to add new tracks and/or remove older ones that we don't play anymore is something that we do on a regular basis.
