This appears to be the best soundcard option for laptops. Higher SNR than any internal card, its 4 channel so you can use headphones, its relatively inexpensive ($125-150), and since its USB I can easily move it to my desktop when not using the laptop.

Anway, what I am concerned about is if the USB overhead has any adverse effect in atomixmp3. If you have been lucky enough to get an extigy could you please respond with how it performs.

Thanks

Does SNR mean signal noise reduction ?

It means Signal Noise Ratio (in decibel).

I think this new Extigy might be worth investigating into. I am building another tower and putting an audigy ex in it, but I also wouldnt mind using this extigy if its worth it (Im buying a new laptop so this could make life easier). This could be an excellent solution to the laptop soundcard problem. If anybody has any first hand experience with this or has heard any information in regards to it, please post here. Im sure im not the only one.

One question - do the front/rear outputs:

1. Work in atomix as the two seperate channels?

2. Output the same volume level?

I posted about this device some time ago, it does look interesting. I do have some concerns though:

Latency over USB.

No ASIO (low latency drivers) for my virtual synths.

On the subject of 3D sound cards, does anyone know if the center/sub woofer output could be (ab)used as a third stereo output?

Also check out EMagics EMI 6/2 device, twice the price, but better drivers (prehaps).
