I really need your help to this. I bought a 200 GB HD IDE and replaced an 120 GB HD in a USB box. When i pluged the USB cable in to my Laptop it was recognized as Disk Starage or something and said it's ready to use. BUT when i open "My Computer" or any other program it does not show it. The same thing happens if i plug in to PC. I did not change anything, it worked fine with the 120GB, what happened? BIOS, Drivers , all updated and SP2 too. Please any ideas?

You have to place a letter to that drive... for that go to My PC and right-Click it. Select Manage or Administrate (The option number four from top to bottom)... You open something like "Equipment Managment" in there select "Disc Managment" look for your USB disk and change the letter to enter or maybe you need to create a partition and format the new drive.
After doing these your disc will be ready to use it.

Yeah... a new HD is not partitioned, it's only raw space; your PC "percept" it but since the HD doesn't have a logical unit you cannot "see" it. You have to make a partition (with Partition Magic, or fdisk, or else) and than format it.

Right click on it and follow the prompts.
It will advise you on the partition, just click the recommended size and quick format.
It should come back unshaded and then will appear on your list of drives in my computer.
It will assign the drive letter which you can change later.
I usually title my drives with what is on them, audio, video 123 or karaoke etc...

The IDE to USB bridge electronics in the external box
have limitations. The earlier the manufacture of the box,
the lower the total capacity. The boxes I have been
purchasing lately are certified for up to 400GB. Some of
the earlier boxes are good for only 120GB or 250GB.
My suggestion to those with "older" external enclosures
is to upgrade now to ones with the "latest" higher HDD
capacities. 400GB caps are plentiful. They work fine
for my 320GB drives.
And hopefully this is not the case in your situation...but...

thanks for the advices, i had to format the disk first, i did not know that. I did not do it with the 120 GB because it was inside the PC before i put it in the USB box. Problem solved..Thanks a lot !!!
