1)
Will the new update (version 4) have the ability to route two seperate video signals (player 1 and 2) as an option in order to use an external video mixer/switcher? I want to crossfade videos will mixing with a crossfader and one option would to buy pioneers video switcher utilizing most current mixers with the CD start function. (http://www.djdeals.com/pioneerVSW1.htm) $399 shipped. Or do I have to buy a midi compatible mixer like the Ecler NOU 4 ($749) or the new Pioneer DJM-800 ($1500)? I am currently using a Denon mixer with the CD start function and would love to utilize it if I could with video switching without spending more money a new mixer.
2)
Will it have more ID3 tag support than version 3? Really need more fields than title, artist, BPM, and comment. I am pretty sure I am not alone on that one.
3)
Can we use any of the current effects, skins, or plug-ins with it? I love Cyders new V-Mix skin for video mixing. Would be a shame if I could use it or maybe if you guys could have multiple options for default skins in the program already according to one's needs. Like some people do nothing but use the on-screen functions (ei. play, stop, loop, etc) have a skin with just that on it.. Maybe a skin geared to users of external controllers (DAC-3, TCV, TCCD)... I would hate to bug some of these guys whom have mastered the art of skinning the program to pump out Version 4 of the their current skin. I know I tried it once and spent entirely too much time trying to learn it... not enough patience with it.
4)
Cost? I have some DJ's I know now that want to buy the software but are thinking of waiting for the new release. I told them it may be more but I am not sure. Currently $149 digital download for U.S. users. Great price. So how soon before it is released and they have no choice but spend more... not that it isn't worth it. Just giving them a heads up.
5)
Will the new version support 48khz audio for DVD ripped videos. I am sooooo tired of re-sampling my videos for better sound use. I have nearly 2000 videos already and I am not even half way down re-sampling them. Be nice to know I don't have to anymore and I could focus on other things like taking walks, sleeping, and paying bills. Just hate being a slave to the computer for so long.
6)
Database transferrable from previous version? After scanning and setting cue points for so many files in the current version that would be even more time preparing my system for use after updating the software.
I guess that is all I can think of right now...
Anyone could add the line of questioning or actually answer any of them ... if you really know the answer that is.

1) I don't know
2) See Above
3) Yes of course
4) The price may increase for new users but their is no update fee for existing customers
5) should be better (new sound engine)
6) Yes of course
The thing is with every update, they can't do everything in one release, there are so many people saying "oh it will be better when 4 comes" it will in regards to some things, but some features/improvements you guys want may not come until later releases.

Bagpuss > Answer 4 is false.
Regarding price policy : no annoucement until now about a possible change. Commercial departement has not yet fixed if the special internet price will disappear with v4 release.
Regarding existing users update policy, I remind bagpuss and all users that Atomix Productions has no legal obligation to offer you the updates. You could have to pay a small fee to update to fourth generation of the software.
However, this is not a public declaration, I had just to disagree with previous post. No public statement has already been taken as our priority is first to finalize the dev before thinking about commercial release :)

Well in that case this part was correct: "The price may increase for new users", and this part "but their is no update fee for existing customers" sounds like A 50 50 here as it seems undecided, so in A gameshow even the question would be false ;).
I think I was misinformed here then, however this has been the practice of Atomix since day 1 (correct?), so I'll be observing with interest..

I am with Low Fat Al. Definitely needs more ID3 tag stuff. I guess for some guys it does not matter. For those, maybe have the option o turning off that column, similar to windows explorer. Also the search function. I have about 4000 songs loaded. I have a folder created for each cd and there are currently about 200 folders. The reason for that is I was w/ Promo Only and now TMCI. I did not want to lump all of the songs in one folder to search it. In this part of the world I will get requests for almost every type of music during a gig. I have to keep it close by. Things would be easier if all had to play was dance or hip-hop such is not the case. I don't want to have to be in the folder that the song is in to find it. Or maybe I am missing some feature that VDJ already has. I tried the adding to the db search with no luch:(
I think Al should consider getting a part time job in the marketing research dept w/ Atomix. Seems like he knows what the people want! :) Thanks Al

The thing about paying a small fee for an upgrade is that some people will feel that they are having to pay for something that VDJ should have already.
IE good sound quality.
I've got to say myself that I'm not too bothered about the VDJ sound quality. I've got it sounding pretty good and particularly if I compare that to what Vinyl would sound like for a lot of oldies. I can always play a track on CD if I want top quality for certain tracks.
But my bet is that there will be a small charge, which I will probably pay cos I can afford it. I'm lucky now but haven't always been like that. I've had my hand down the back of the settee plenty times looking for change over the years.
Many VDJ users are not well off and are beginner DJs or trying their best to make an honest living from DJing, so I just appeal to the VDJ staff to not make a charge. I think it will do better business for them in the long run cos then they will have the potential to give a real boost to VDJs popularity through it's very loyal fans (laike us).
Good gigging.

My prediction is that there wont be an upgrade fee, but apparently it's undecided.

I have been using Virtual DJ for a while now...I am too hoping that the change the sound quality. I have over 27,000 videos that I currently have ripped into vob format. I don't want to change all these to a lower quality just to do videos.
I must say that this is the best program I have used in years. To those that don't want to pay for updates. My feeling is that if there are major changes I don't mind paying a fee for an upgrade. However, if it is an upgrade that just corrects alot of bugs the system might have in the future we should not have to pay for those changes.
Those of you that do not want to pay for updates are crazy. If you update to a new mixer, speaker or even new music you pay...so why not pay for the software. I call tell you from experience that what they charge for this program is really low for what you get in return. I have tried or used just about every software program out there and trust me free updates and only $149 for the program is just crazy!
VDJ Team, if you change the sound quality for the promo only videos who have my vote for charging a fee for the update. If you are in the business to make a living or even part time remember just like you have expenses so does the VDJ Team. Eventually, they will get to a point that there income is lower then there expenses...so if you want updates (Not updates for bug corrections), then we should have to pay, even a small fee.
Nothing in life that is great is ever free...if it is you might want to read the small print.
Again, thanks for a great product for the mobile entertainers.

RE: Paying for updates - FruityLoops has free updates for life and the program has changed in all recognition from the first few versions. This is a good key differentiating factor over other similar programs. In addition, regarding the hardware comparison - surely this is a benefit of software?
Not to mention, is it not easier from a support point of view to only support the latest version?

Very valid points Tunic, I can see this one blowing up into an all out debate :), As we use the software on A licence basis, I'd be interested to know how an upgrade fee would work.

@ Yan-X
I don’t think we should have to pay for an improvement (update) in the sound quality. However, any other substantial “upgrades” do warrant an upgrade fee. Consequently, if Atomix Productions decides to charge an upgrade fee, it should provide a separate free update for the sound quality improvement.
