I posted a message about Mac this morning. Thanks for all the tips and info. Although my mind goes off to the Mac PowerBook Pro I've done some research and it seems that using Windows emulators could give some problems. So I'm taking my way-of-thinking elsewhere. Perhaps I should wait untill the next version of MacOS is released to see if it gives enough support for Windows software.
Perhaps I should buy a lighter notebook now and do the transition to Mac next year or the year after that? Anyway, after examining some configurations I want your opinion about this, a notebook from Dell with an agreable price - about 1.100 EUR:
Dell Inspiron 6400 (N05641)
- Intel ® Core™ Duo Processor T2300 (1.66 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)
- Windows® XP Home Edition, SP2
- 1024MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x512)
- Grafische Kaart 256MB ATI® MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 graphics card, PCI-Express x16
- Harddisk 60GB (7,200 rpm)
- Optical Drives 8X DVD+/-ReWriter
- Intel® Pro WLAN 3945 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g 54 Mbps)
- LCD 15.4" W Screen XGA TFT Display resolution: 1280x800
Would this suit the needs of Virtual DJ version 3.4 and above? (at least one year).
The only thing that I'm doubtfull of is the speed of the memory: 533 MHz, shouldn't it be better for 667 MHZ (though it's not configurable at the Dell website).
Thank you for your help in this!

I just bought exactly the same laptop, and let me tell you, it runs awesome............audio and video......, the best feature of this laptop is the core duo processor, it garantees you more than 27% better response when running 2 or more aplications at the same time. if you want to try the performance, try running a full scan anti virus software and VDj at the same time and it seems like you are just doing one thing at a time.
I already mixed a set of videos for about 45 mins, and the computer's cpu usage was at 17%, for me it has been the best laptop i have ever tried for the VDJ.
hope this helps.

I'm thinking more and more into this direction. Buy this one and see next year if the MacBook Pro has evolved. No problems you say using this one? Super... at least now I know this one will work with VDJ!

I bought this notebook and guess what... it does not work properly. I have cracks and ticks in the sound. Already opened a ticket @ Virtual DJ, but the team has no idea what the problem could be. I have asked in some forums, but nobody seems to locate the problem. Some say latency, others say USB,...
At the DELL forums someone suggested that there was a known problem (a kind of bug) in the chip or chipset. Apparantly people who use Pro Tools have the same problem as I, who use Virtual DJ.
I'm completely at the edge of my nerves, after one week trying, testing, re-installinge, deleting and so on. Especially the fact that I bought this notebook for the sole purpose of Virtual DJ. No more, no less.
If someone could help me, I would really appreciate it.

dell suport sucks lol they will denny all faults and put the blame on you unless you have a gold support package.
and i find the words dell and inspiron offensive , i had one a year or so ago witch actualy caught on fire ,"due to a very rare motherboard defect" just thought id chuck that in :)
i will never buy a dell laptop again.
