A simple but very usefull idea:

In the explorer tree (left) using the arrow keys
one can expand/collapse folders.
But there is a diference between vdj and windows explorer.
While the up/down keys are working well, the left/right
keys expand/collapse folders one level only.
So if you have many subfolders then you have to press
the left or right arrow once and then use up/down

In windows explorer you can press left/right
several times and is much more quickly to browse then.
Its hard to explain but you can easily test it.

Looks like a detail but is a pain when you have many folders/subfolders.
Please make it like the windows explorer.

And another great idea :
Actions (keyboard shortcuts) for specific folders (or playlists)
(like final scratch or traktor)
Just go to a folder using a keyboard key.
Again useful when many subfolders.
What do you think ?

I aslo like the second idea. Then you could create some shortcuts for folders you often use. Like n for new music and g for your GoodSongs folder or something like that

I didn't noticed the first "issue"

for the "second" we all agree...
for the "first" maybe its hard to explain but take a folder
with many subfolders and try in both vdj and windows
explorer or other "explorer type" programs.
Lets say a folder named "pop" with 15 subfolders, and the last of them
is named "Madona" and it also contains 2 subfolders,
which are 2 albums of Madona for example.
Now if you are browsing these albums, to go to the root
folder "pop" with vdj you need press the left arrow once
(second time does nothing) and the up arrow key about 15 times.
With windows explorer you just need to press the left arrow
2 times, one for -->Madona, ana one more for -->pop

I hope it is clear (my english are not so good !)
If you don't understand, you dont like Madona :)

aposis...

kinda hard to say what you are looking for in "first"..

Is it this:
- In Windows Explorer having a "POP" folder with 15 sub-folders, pressing the letter "M" will take you to the "Madonna" subfolder"
- In VDJ having a "POP" folder, you must move with arrows all the way down to "Madonna", pressing 15 times, because pressing "M" doesn't do anything

Is this the difference? If thats it, would love to see more "explorer like" in VDJ too :)

I think he means :

You can say for example "well pressing the letter L should bring me to "disco" folder", with the shortcuts. This way you can assign a folder to a key, whatever the folder or the key is.
Just like you set a shortcut for "play" or "stop" actions.

No? :-)

Ok I understoud!!!!

Apopsis means :

When you browse the windows explorer tree with the keyboard arrows, you can collapse / expand a folder by pressing the left / right key. But this feature doesn't work in VDJ, that's what he want I think.

He wants both vertical and horizontal browsing working together as in the windows browser.

It wouln't be hard to make shortcuts like that for browsing the folders...

But I think it would be harder to make VDJ scroll through all folders that starts with a 'M' when pressing 'm' on the keyboard... especially when the shortcut-engine is working like it is in VDJ. It is certainly doable... but it would occupy a lot of your keys on the keyboard to that type of action unless you define them with SHIFT+... or something.

But why not just sort the songs better or use the search-engine... or the mouse :)
(Or if you use a resolution bigger than 1024*768, maybe have an explorer-window open and drag the songs to the VDJ window. Then you can browse for songs the way that you are used to)

Fruit, thanks man. This i what i mean.
I was ready to post and explain again, grrr...
Expand/collapse using left/right arrow work in Vdj
but only one level, then you have to use up/down.
In windows explorer, pressing again left arrow do collepse,
and go directly to the first folder even if this folder contains
lets say a number, 500 ! subfolders...
For mobile or other djs playing in different places, and different
music styles ended up with many folders/subforders
this make sense.

Hey Norway, and Jim, pressing a letter example M to go to
a Folder starting with M looks like a good idea at first,
but i dont thing it is possible because it will "conflict"
with other functions/shortcuts.

Thank you all for the time you spend to understand my points.

no problem :) 2 good ideas then ... :)

apopsis: yeah that is what I was saying...You would have to define such an action for every letter (and digit)... but you can define shortcuts by combining a letter with other keys such as 'shift', 'CTRL', and 'alt'. So it is possible.
