I just got my first PC from a friend. He has Virtual DJ 2.01 installed on it. How do i go about getting my turntables connected to my PC? What cables, connection etc , do i need? My computer is running XP Media Center 2005, thanks in advance for any help.

I was not around for 2.0, so don't know what it's features were. If it supports TCV (time coded vinyl), you will need an external sound-card with 4 inputs/4 outputs. Your turntables go to the inputs, the outputs to your mixer, and a usb cable to the computer. Get the serial number from your friend, so you can register the software, and get free upgrades. He will of course lose the ability to use it.

TCV's are supported in 2.01 as stated in History.
But I'm not sure is it legal that your friend has given you his VDJ or serial.

Well, they both can not have it at the same time, as it is tied to an email address. Since I don't know what the status is of his license, I was giving him an opportunity to do the right thing. It could be a legitimate license or a crack, but that is the job of the piracy staff.

If you want to play with TCV, that old version of VDJ 2 is showing its age these days anyway - there's been a mountain of bugfixes and new features added since then! I wasn't around for version 2, but a friend of mine downloaded a dodgy version of it the other week, and having seen it, I can say that the current version is light years ahead! I'm told the timecode system in v4 works a lot better than the previous releases, so it's probably worth the extra cash if you're going to be using vinyl. Hopefully the v4 demo will be available for download in the next week or so, see what you think...
