Topic: HELP ME PLEASE : E-MU 1616M + 2 TCCDs + External Mixer

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Please I dunno how to setup the ASIO and VDJ for my E-MU 1616M sound card.

I'd like to use it with my 2 Numark CDX cd players and my Numark DXM Pro mixer.

I begin to be so so desperate lol please someone help me, I'd like to play my mp3s on my laptop computer with my CDX and scratch them with my DXM Pro.

I saw that there is people on this forum who have E-MU 1616 or 1616M and said that it works with VDJ so can you help me to setup mine ?

heya

take deck one and plug it into hijack 1

deck 2 into hi jack 2
choose asio mode and choose the driver for this card
now as

ur card only apears to have one spif out
it may be diffuclt / impossibe to hook it up to the mixer as an output

but with

Setup 2 , mix the inputs before it reaches the software and have the main out of your mixer go into hyjack 1

goodluck

if you need more help let me know :)

Thank you for answering me so quickely :-)

(I have to say that I'm a french guy so excuse me for my english, I try to express myself the best I can)

So, I don't understand everything you said lol. But, to work fine with 2 cd players and 1 external mixer, VDJ require a sound card with 2 input chanels (one for each cd player) and 2 output chanels (going to the lines 1 & 2 of the external mixer) is that true ?

So if it's true, as the E-MU 1616M have 2 (stereo jack 6.35) inputs and 3 (stereo jack 6.35) outputs, I'd be able to use this soundcard with VDJ.

But when I try to setup the asio driver in VDJ, it tells me "error in audio asio driver : there isn't enough ways" (translated from the french "erreur dans le driver audio asio : il n'y a pas assez de voies").

:'-(

Sounds like Skyfxl never looked at the back of the card and is giving you wrong instructions by telling you to you use Mic inputs. :)

What you need to do is hook up your CD players to Inputs 1L/1R and 2L/2R. After that you need to open Patchmix and create 2 ASIO strips for outputs and 2 Physical Input strips. I am not exactly sure if that's how I am doing it because I am not at home right now. If that doesn't work, let me know and I will take a look.
To have soundcard output to 2 separate channels on an external mixer, you need to forward one ASIO strip to Physical output 2 and the other one to Physical output 3, and connect outs 2 / 3 to a mixer.

This might sounds confusing at first, but makes perfect sense once you get used to it. It's an amazing soundcard!

BTW, you don't need asio4all.

I got it from e-mu's site, but there are also photos of the back side on google images if you scroll through more pages.

I have the same soundcard, and totally in love with it! These use some of the best DACs on the market! Probably best you can get for a laptop under a grand.

Looks DAMN good when seeing backside of it, with the descriptions ;)

Hardware preamp and all ;) nice stuff

But thats only for ONE phono in right?

But that wont be a problem for CD deck users:)

Yes, but you don't have to use Phono Input for turntables. You can use regular inputs, as VDJ already has a software preamp built in.

Just like hardware amps more ;)

But the card looks damn nice

I agree, hardware amps are better for recording, but for timecode I doubt it makes any difference. So you only really need one.

Hey abnorm, thank you for your post, I don't have any "2 rca male / 2 jack 6.35 male" cable so I can't test the config today, maybe tomorrow, I don't know. But, as you know your soundcard very well and I don't lol do you have msn ? It would be cool for me to talk with someone like you. Thx

Yes I do, but I can't send you a messege since you are a No License User. If you have a full version of VDJ, please register your account.

i've been mucking about with a friends emu 1616 and vdj but having problems configuring as well. im experienced enough around any patch bay but came across some serious strangeness which doesnt make sense to me

steps:
1) create two ASIO outs on the Emu patchbay
2) set the patching from mix to each out put on the output tab of patchbay
3) configure vdj using external mixer (no timecode for the first bit) and set vdj on asio useage

The strange thing is the patching in emu. Rather than having a single 1L/1R & 2L/2R pair, I always had both ASIO outs from VDJ going through the same outputs (as in both channels through both strip outs).

i finally found out I had to put the strip1 on emu patchbay, both on Left and both of strip 2 on Right. Then I plugged the cables so channel 1 on the mixer is in 1L and 2L and channel 2 of the mixer is on 1R and 2R... I spent hours messing around and this is the only way I got it working, which is fine enough but Im wondering if I've done something horribly wrong or missed something. The Emu guide is abstract at best so it's not much of a help.

Second bit is even though I add two input strips to use for timecode, VDJ always complains I dont have enough outputs and the defaults to the last setting.

Anyone else had this experience? I did get timecode working at one short point but not sure how (maybe intermittent driver problems) and I can contest that so far Im really impressed with the combo of VDJ and EMU 1616. The low latency profile from a cardbus makes scratching much snappier than Serato, so I'm extremely happy. BUT this patch config is plagueing me....
