hi
can someone please help me i have just got a new vista laptop and i am trying to run my hercules mk2 with virtual dj.I have installed the updated hercules (vista compatible) drivers and the vdj dj console edition v3.4.1(vista compatible) update and it wont open because i get the direct x sound driver error and it just closes vdj.please can someone help me out

your lucky day i've just had the same problem go down the page to skyfxl - dj norway post i got mine sorted out there(if its the same problem)...hope it helps... as always as they say got the latest edition drivers?....Tayla

thanks for the help guys but no joy ive updated direct x.and that other suggestion says about goin in to vdj settings but i cant do that because the program dosent open to get in there im soooo confused lol and more suggestions would be most helpful

can only tell you the way i did it, if the grand masters are about best follow their advise or you'll end up more confused then ever but this is the way i did it 1) went to config tab and opened, 2) opened sound set up tab, 3) follow instructions for:- inputs/outputs/sound cards, if that don't work your on your own! (lol) kidding, hope it works but if not there is always a guardian angel watching over you....Tayla

There is another forum listed under General issues that is talking abaout running the new released software with the MK2. I tried loading and unloading both the software and the drivers and continually get the directx sound driver error.... I think we need to get into a configure menu somehow and set up the line inputs and sound card etc... The other answers are all related to the Pro Edition and the home edition requires having the MK2 plugged in and with the directx error I cannot even get to the configure page... Maybe we need to use traktor or something to configure the computer first.... Let me know if you have any luck... Nice to have the software but now need to get it operational...

thats what i said above, lads try it this way dont plug anything in open up vdj as stand alone player and try the configure tab the way i suggested (above) if that does'nt work at least its one obstacle out the way and i'm sure sky or norway or whoever will sort this out for you....

The Home Edition does not allow any options to configure anything... Properties has nothing and once you try to open it the directX error pops up and that is it... DEAD...

I had the same error in VDJ 4.2
I managed to resolve the problem so try this:....
if your console is plugged into you PC/Laptop and your speakers are plugged into the console then you need to open up your Hercules control panel, on the "Main" tab, select ASIO under audio mode.
Open up your config on your VDJ software, under sound setup select "inputs: None"; "Outputs: Headphones"; "Sound card:ASIO Driver.
This worked for me.
Note: I configured the control panel before I opened the VDJ software.

First make sure that the console's firmware has been update correctly ( check in DJ Console MK2 Mixer in section About). You should normally get 13.7 or 13.6 depending on the console release.
Finally something working.... From Hercules:
The firmware update should normally be launched automatically at the end of the installation, but there seems to be a problem there.
To proced , launch the application ( HDJUpdater.exe) in Program Files/ Hercules/Audio/DJ Console Series/ MK2/Updater/HDJ2Updater
- Uninstall Virtual DJ AND the DJ console drivers, then proceed as follow:
1- Install the drivers first, as Administrator ( right click on the EXE, select "Run as Administrator")
2- Once the installation is complet and the computer as rebooted, proceed in the same manner for Virtual DJ
Finally something working.... From Hercules:

I have updated the latest firmware, downloaded VDJ 3.4.1, got the patches from Hercules sight for MK2 and installed latest version of Direct X. I still get "DirectX sound driver error" message. Please can somebody help. I have had the MK2 a month now and I just want to use it soon. Many thanks Dan

Hey guys
The only help I can offer, which worked for me, is to configure the Hercules control panel first before you open the VDJ software. Try using the ASIO setting in audio mode rather than the WDM setting
