Hercules MK2, and BCD 2,000 have built in sound cards so just plug and play, but the Vestax VCI and Numark Total control seem to be more complicated. With these I understand I will need an external sound card with two auxillary inputs?
Pre listening to music using a sound card: The numark DJ i/o has a headphone output. To pre listen to music withought playing live, do I just select the deck using the buttons on the VDJ software? Also can the sound card work using 2 time coded vinyl as inputs?
Many Thanks

i am not an experienced DJ but i get my knowledge through YouTube videos. what i think it is, when you put the headphones on, one side will listen to one deck and the other side will listen to the other no matter where the crossfader is. if the crossfader's all the way to the right and you play the left deck, you can hear both decks perfectly clear. this is what i think. as for the time coded vinyl, you'll have to check it for yourself. the computer i am using right now has a problem with acrobat. do this.
1. go to Numark.com
2. click Support
3. then six options will come to you so you go to Product Overviews
4. when you go down to Computer DJ, you can see the DJio
maybe what i explained isnt exactly how it works but you can read the Product Overview. that's coming from an unexperienced DJ so try doing more research. from what i understand, YES you do need the DJio in order to play the Total Control. i am also planning on buying the Total Control and i know this is a turn off. good luck and tell me some information about the Total Control and DJio.

Huray for Youtube! Thats what I've basicly been using to find out about USB controllers too. The websites aren't the most descriptive. I would like to know, does the Total Control have FX buttons and FX mix/volume knobs? I think from the low-res picture it does.

No use in speculation guys.
THe Hardware IS NOT released yet.
other than a couple of test models to the testing team no-one has these things yet.
no info avail.

Just got a promise of mid April from one store in the UK. I reckon it will be May/June more likely.
The guy said that Numark were prone to delivering later than the marketing hype. But they are expecting the Vestax unit in the next 3 weeks.

what shop is that? I'm having problems finding dealers for any DJ software controllers. I guess the market isn't big enough in my area.

That was http://www.djstore.co.uk. I buy all my gear from there. They're really helpful, next day delivery and they always price match if found cheaper elsewhere.

Am I understanding this right.
Surely you don't have to use specifically the Numark i/0 soundcard/interface?
I would be interested in having a Total Control but would probably want to use my existing soundcard.
Bearing in mind that the new Maya44s are only around £70 at the moment I would have thought that others would want to use the soundcard of their choice too.

No, the Total Control is not going to require the DJio. It is just a midi controller. Think of it kind of like an advanced "keyboard". Your keyboard doesn't require a specific sound card or video card does it? Of course not. Yes, it is a midi via USB, so more than just a keyboard, but more or less the same relationship to your computer. It is it's own device, and serves only the function of controller the features of software, and is completely separate from your other hardware, including sound card. The DJio is shown in the YouTube videos as a separate product that they will be selling, and as an option for a pretty good sound card for CUE. If I didn't already have a good sound card, I'd probably consider it, as DJio was designed around the idea of working well with CUE/Virtual DJ.
So no worries, the DJio is just a optional sound card if you don't already have something you are happy with, or if you'd like to upgrade from something that is not as good. It is not required for the Total Control.

Soundcards! There is quite a range in the prices of external sound cards. Is there really much difference in the sound quality between a £40 and £80 sound card? What other differences could there be?

Hey, i realise that this board hasn't been updated in a while, but in case anyone wants to know, I bought the total control unit without having really looked into what it did, it looked almost identical to the Cue interface and i figured it would be the way to get headphones hooked up to Cue/VDJ and as this really seemed like a requirement to make best use of the software.
I just bit the bullet and bought it. (over eBay, from america as it cost me AUD$400 all up instead of the AUD$699 from retailers here) I was very surprised when it didnt have a headphone socket on the unit so i then went ahead and actually did the research that i should have done before i paid my money....
as it goes, i'm actually VERY happy with the total control unit, and have found an easy fix for the headphone issue, by buying a USB headset for AUD$50. The USB headset installs as a separate soundcard and work perfectly with the software. This solution lets me use the hardware to control the sofware - and it's very handy - and the headphones for monitoring... in fact, it was so good that when my other mates had a god they rushed out and bought the same setup for themselves.... the only thing i would do differently if i did it again is that i would buy a USB soundcard (cheap) and then use my traditional dj headphones which plug into it. 'The USB headset is fine for having some fun or the occasional party, but wouldn't be great in a club situation.
You DON'T need the DJIO from numark, just some kind of extra sound card..
