Hello, this will probably sound very naive, as a flick through here suggests I am no where near the required spec.
I only have the demo version, downloaded yesterday. Its gods own software f'ing brilliant.
BUT. the vast majority of my MP3's take literally 15 minutes to load up. Ergo, its useless. Like having a golf club but no balls.
However, I only have a 1.3 celeron & 258 mb ram.
am i trying to start a ferrari with a mini engine?
And if so, if i was to purchase or upgrade to a pc that could deal with the full purchased version, what would I be best to get? I recall the min spc i saw on the website was below what I have?
any help greatly appreciated.

Yes, you are trying to "start a Ferrari with a Mini engine". My MP3s load immediately.
I would suggest no less than a P4 at 2GHz (Duo Core would be better)
At least 1 gig of ram (2-4 is better)
A good independent soundcard)
A good independent video card if you plan on mixing videos

Alot of the newer laptops are good, but like chopstix says, go for 1 gig of ram (or more if you can afford, but a gig works fine for me). Avoid anything with the word celeron on, and also check for good video cards if you think you might want to do karaoke or video mixing at some point. (try to avoid anything with "shared ram", just let us know if you want some more info on that sort of stuff.

Also, keep in mind if you are using Windows Vista, you may as well double what you "think" you need for ram since it's a hog

I would recommend a Toshiba or Dell. Stay away from HP/Compaq

I assume you have an HP then eh? I would tell you to take a high end HP and a high end AlienWare/Dell and compare, but don't know if you would know what to look for....
HP was the better of the two OTS computer systems until Compaq (biggest pile of junk next to E-Machine) merged with them.
It's proprietary system is overrun by junk that is not needed. All the money wasted on touch sensitive controls for the volume and such, could have been better suited to more refined mobos... better video cards and the like. Instead it is a hack shot job of putting things together IMHO.
Even the cases feel flimsy in comparison. Find someone with an AlienWare laptop and just compare the general "feel" of it. It will feel more durable because it is.

I can agree with you on two things: Compaq, old brand, that sometimes wasn't even compatible with it's own hardware setup.. and, there are lots of HP-made processes and programs that are running on their computers nowdays, is it really nescessary..??
Was testrunning video mixing with VDJ on a HP notebook the other week though, that contained a 256MB nVidia GO 7600 graphics card with great sucess. However, I had to tweak the system for a whole day to make it run smoothly. Lots of wireless services, HP-specific processes and Windows-related processes which wasn't nescessary had to be inactivated. (I made two hardware profiles to choose between on boot-up.
So, regarding the relativily small price tag some HP models are sold with, and some major tweaking, I'd say it ain't really that bad - actually i'd say it's really worth the effort and money.
