Hi everyone, i seem to spend most of my life here asking questions, you guys have a lot of patience!

I've been using my new laptop for VDJ for a while now. I use it for video and audio in a club.

I'm currently using time coded cd's. I'm not 100% happy with these, but thats another story.

My question is performance. I thought what i had purchased was of reasonable spec, but i can't seem to use VDJ with the performace slider set to the far right, in fact have to go one setting from the left of the slider. The sound quality is good when i'm on high performance settings, but when i cue a track, it interferes with the track thats playing.

I thought i'd post my specs and see if what i'm using is good enough, of if i'm hoping for too much from my system. I'm also getting pops and crackles, nothing major, just the odd one noticable in quieter tracks.

Laptop spec is:

Intel Core 2 CPU T5600 @1.83GHz

2046MB RAM

Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium

NVIDEA GeoForce Go 7600 512mb Dedicated

320GB SATA Hard Drives (2x160)

Maya44 USB

External 300GB Hard Drive

Virtual DJ 4.3

Also, just as a bit of extra info, i was told that Vista & VDJ are very RAM 'thirsty' but my system indicates it never uses more than 39% of my RAM which surprises me.

Hm, specs look very nice, how about CPU usage in Task Manager? Maximum quality in performance is a challenge for most High speed PC's. Try lowering the slider a little since you are using TCCD, you don't need maximum if you don't scratch a lot. I think that maximum is needed for TCV use and heavy scratching.

So it doesn't make any difference to the quality of the sound output? I don't scratch, just beatmix.

the performance quality aslo relates to the quality of the soundcard you use so if your using an internal card it will be worse than a higher quality one say vv box

you should try setting it higher with "auto" latency this helps as it takes that into acount

the areo theme is aslo a guzzeler on performance turn off all the fancy graphics crap.

and should be faster aslo :)

When you say 'aero' theme, do you mean the default vista theme? I can't see one called aero.

Ok, i'll try it tonight. Even if i can't operate on the highest performance, with my spec, should i be capable of working on the next one down?

It should work ok just switch off all the fancy stuff you can in Vista because it will free a lot of ram memory for VDJ.

This is not an answer to Gary's question. Earlier today while DJSpun1_2 and I were in the public chatroom someone was bad rapping the DJ. I realized this a community, not just a program. We supprot each other and help each other. How cool is that??? I am honored to be amongst your ranks.... Gary's post helped to remember this and I wanted to mention it.

I don't seem to have any RAM issues. With Vista running all its fancy stuff and VDJ running, my RAM usage never goes above 50%, so i don't think this is the problem?

Hi Gary,

I can see your logic there, but I think it might be worth a try anyway.

Even though your ram obviously isn't full, if windows is running the fancy stuff it's probably going to be using extra processing power on those things as well as extra ram.

Good luck gettting it sorted.

I will do a screenshot, but i have to go to work now, so tomorrow i do a screenshot and post it for you guys.

Thanks

Ok, i'm not sure how to post screen shots here, so i've posted them here:

www.djgarybrown.co.uk/vdj

Last night was terrible. The 'clicks' and 'pops' meant i had to stop using the system and go to back up mode instead.

I tried unticking safemode and overclock and increasing performance bar, but the audio quality was so distorted.

What next guys, any ideas?

Gary

Can you try your sound card on some other system? Did you tried lowering latency on Maya?

I noticed in your taskbar, you had quite a few things in there, bluetooth, power monitor,etc...

Try disabling anything not to do with VDJ.

Stay offline while DJ'ing

Download latest and greatest DirectX drivers. (make a BIG difference)

Adjust XP/ Vista settings to best performance rather than best quality.

In short - Anything the comp has to do extra takes away from it's ability to manipulate sound/vidoe files.

Hopefully that helps.

It's best to do a clean install of OS if possible and than try VDJ and Maya before any other software and Internet usage. I have 2 separate OS, one only for VDJ and other for everything else on my laptop.
