I've seen all the threads regarding this error about the controller not being detected, however no matter what i try, i still get this message. i had it working before, but had to do a system recovery and re-install everything. i downloaded the latest drivers for vista, and the computer recognizes the controller as installed , as there is a little icon in the system tray. could someone give me a step by step on how to fix this, as i am playing at a bbq this weekend and need this up and running! thank you....

to confirm you are loged in as an administrator

I am logged in as admin. and even so, i right click and still select run as admin. also, i don't see admin group in the users section. anyhow, i downloaded the latest direct x and did everything from scratch, and presto, no probs! thank you, i still used your link!
