I have 2 100ft 1/4 inch end cables that I made. I picked up a huge roll of heavey duty speaker wire from lowes and the 1/4 tips + solder gun from radio shack a few years back they work great. I guess for XLR you would need a ext cord for the 3rd wire.

I tried it when I first started djing and it worked fine. I split a 100 ft cord into 50ft. I dont recommend anything higher as it starts creating a lot of resistance due to length and the fact that the cord was never intended to be used for audio.
