You mean the original Genre the song was produced under at the time it was released?
Also the Year it was release would also be a Big help for updating your library, especially a large one..
I'm looking for something like this also...

Downloaded this,
You can add your own genre manually which I don't want to do, or you can scan a file and then choose from the albums that come back from net but you can only choose one supplier at a time e.g. Amazon etc. There are others that search them all at once which is better.
Also, seemed to bring back random results.

This is the issue with these automated things.
If you're not filling in genre, year etc. yourself manually then you can never be 100% sure what's going to end up in the tag.

I'm surprised there is no "genre central" somewhere on the net with an API that can be used by developers...
Wait... Maybe... Shh,,,. You never heard me mention this... lol
Cheers,
Roy

With genres though, one mans pop is another mans cheese etc. etc.
The term you may use to describe something is not necessarily the same as the term someone else would use.

All I want is what it was originally released as by the record company.
I didn't get on with this software at all, the one I like best is music brainz picard, all info retrieved has been correct and it's really easy with good youtube tutorials. only thing is it doesn't do genres!
Lets keep this tread going and try and come up with an auto tagger for genre.
Gadget, I have no idea what your talking about.

I've been looking for a while, can't find anything. I asked on a windows community and nothing. You think in 2014 there would be something for this!

Well, thanks for your effort.
I'll step it up tomorrow.
