I'm a novice dj right now and I've been mixing with cd player and also atomixmp3. I've been quite successful in mixing/remixing trance/dance stuff cuz the beats are very regular and predictable but how do you mix rap n rnb songs together smoothly? Any tips? I've mixed a few songs that go ok together but a lot of the songs seem like they'll never fit together no matter how I try.
Do you rap dj's mix most of your tracks for a significant amount of time or do you just mix the two songs for a few seconds and then keep going (which sounds sorta weak)? Do you preselect your songs that will go together and just go by your playlist? I'd like to know what you guys do. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Well I mostly mix rap and hip hop and I find that it is alot more difficult than tech and trance. I use different ways to mix them, mostly just beatmatch the songs with little samples from other songs that have the same bpm.

hey go thru the Mix Lessons forum and u'll find some posts regarding mixing hip-hop and r&b. however most of them don't really deal with the issue in a detailed fashion. try these:
