Topic: Griffin Powermate to VDJ Mapper

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

The testing of my Griffin Powermate to VDJ mapper is almost finished now. It finaly send commands to VDJ 100% perfect now. It works in the background and you will never see it after you started VDJ.

This first version has hardcoded mapping (i will change that later.) At the moment it detect the following keys from Powermate: Q,W,E,R,T,Y . When it detect any of these it sends a CTRl-SHIFT-ALT + Char to vdj. So a Q from the Powermate results in a CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-Q sent to VDJ.

I use them like this (On Default Deck):

Left: Pitch -
Right: Pitch +

Click Left: Jogwheel -
Click Right: Jogwheel +

Short Click: Play / Pause
Long Click: Change Default Deck

But it can be used to control anything on VDJ that you can set-up as a keyboard shortcut.

I will make it available very soon now

sounds great keep up the good work ...Ima have to get one of those

Just a note.

This is NOT a plugin that runs inside VDJ. It's a standalone program (.NET, Written in C#).

You first start VDJ, then this mapper. The mapper then "listen" for keys sent from the Powermate, convert them and send keystrokes to VDJ. All this is done in the background so you don't see the program if you use VDJ in full screen mode.

it sounds like a good program is it stable? how long have you ran Vdj with it for?

My tests have not been longer than 6-8 hours in a row. But i will test more this week.

But the program is really small and uses windows internal routines to send keys to VDJ, so it can't "hurt" VDJ in any way. From VDJ's side it's just someone pressing keys on the keyboard.

I have never had any problem with "stability" , the problem i had was in the calculation of the scancode to send to VDJ (key). That is now fixed.

ok i see sorta like a multimedia keyboard can't wait till it's ready for us

Hi,

I've bought a Contour Shuttle Xpress - a little smaller than I had thought but feels very nice quality. Looking forward to the key mapper. Going to test now without it to see how it works.

Hiya,

It seems as if the Shuttle XPress works pretty well straight out of the box. Have got the jog wheel and buttons working no problem - just looking and whether to use the outer ring for pitch bend or scan at the mo. Am probably going to use a combination of one of the buttons and the outer ring or jog wheel for pitch control.

This looks like it could be a very similar control mechanism to using CDJ-100s/rack mount CD controls - and very reasonable at £40 each. Not sure if you can run two together though.

ok, but does the powermate work for the video fader? that's the only thing I could never get to work....

Thanks!

-Steve

@Steve Lynch: If you can assign that as a kbd shortcut then it should work. But i will test it this weekend.

Status Update: Std version works ok , but i'm trying to get a second mode working now.

Second Mode:
That will have different functions of the powermate depending on:

1: Deck playing. Left-Right = Pitch
2: Deck paused. Left-Right = Playlist scroll , Click = Load song to deck. , if loaded Click = Play

Long Click = Change deck.

I'm now finished with the first beta of the Griffin Powermate to VDJ Mapper.

And yes, it works with the video fader.

You must have .NET 2.0 installed on your computer for it to work. If you don't have that
you can download it here:
Open MS Download Page

* Set-up the powermate software to send the following keys: Q,W,E,R,T and Y.
* In VDJ, assign a shortcut to CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-[KEY]

1 - First start VDJ.
2 - Then start the mapper.

You can download the mapper here:
Download Mapper

Final version will be posted soon.

hey pern, I use a dac 3 so the only thing i want to do with the powermate is use it for video crossfading... could you explain the process to set it up? I cannot find the video crossfade keyboard shortcuts. I know how to program send keys into the powermate, but don't know which keys control video crossfade.. please elaborate if possible! Thanks!

There is a video section in the shortcuts , and there you will find video_crossfade .

Is the mapper also working for the ShuttlePRO version?????

I think the ShuttlePRO works with VDJ directly, but the mappers isn't hard-coded to the powermate. It will work with any hardware/Software that sends Virtual Keycodes.

It seems that I've got the mapper working to do things like video crossfader, but there's a majorly debilitating side effect when running it...

Whenever I type any of the QWERTY keys in another application, I instantly lose the focus of that application. What's going on here?

At the moment the the mapper sets focus to VDJ to be able to send keystrokes to it. If you are running VDJ only there is no problem. You can also stop the mapper program , work with the other program and then start it again if you want.

I will do a fix that only activate VDJ when you using the powermate and add a Start/Stop Button also.

This "problem" will be 100% solved when he MIDI version that i'm working on at the moment is finished.

Just checked the code again and tested it. The test is already there.

The problem happens only when you use the Griffin mapped keys. QWERTY in other apps . The program then thinks that it's the Powermate that is sending these. I will assign these to other keys and upload a fix.
