Very interesting... one of the weak aspects of Virtual DJ, in my opinion, is the database.
Just my short list of what could be added or improved:
-Customized filename parsing
-Improved tag reading for other formats, like ID3v2
-Ability to make categories within the main database to sort out things like Karaoke, Music, and Video
-More clear icons to distinguish between these types, color coding, etc.
-ability to save the playlist so that upon a crash, or shutdown, your playlist comes back to where it was.
-It should show the playtime of each track automatically, but it has to do a full scan before you can see this.
-When you do a recursive listing of directory contents, the scan can take a very long time and make it difficult to do some other things with the program, or the database. (Often "Stop" is not responsive). It's great that you can browse your computer this way though... it's quite handy, but it wouldn't be necessary if the database could be set up to distinguish file types better, as mentioned above.
-It'd be nice if VDJ kept a history of all the songs that were played (and actually played, not just loaded in a player and removed)
These are just some of my personal opinions, and I could probably think of more. In any case, I work around such deficiencies by using foobar2000, with a database lister plugin that I've done some personalization of. It gets the job done for me, and allows you to drag and drop all the files straight into Virtual DJ.
Of course, I'm very interested in seeing what kind of a project you would have in mind. You can always send me a PM if you'd like me to test it for you.
