looks good remember ul need a dvi supporting monitor

geposted Mon 11 Dec 06 @ 8:43 pm
I believe they all come with the DVI converter. Cyder may say this is overkill, but I want the new Flight Simulator X and it needs a good card.

only new ones:)

Glad you mentioned that, I just went back and checked and this one does. I am in the process of building my new VDJ machine.
ASUS AMD Athlon 64 4000+
1gb memory for now
maybe this card I don't know as of yet as I am still shopping around
XP home OEM
Just got the MOBO and CPU today can't wait to get it installed and all upgraded to SP2 as the OS isn't SP2

It comes with DVI to VGA adapters, so I would'nt worry about that. I would try to find out how good it works with VDJ. I know a lot of us use nVidia cards. I would also want to know how quiet the fan is. My nVidia card has a loud fan.

I too want to know how it works, but I guess the only way to do that is to buy the card and try it. I wonder how much better GDDR4 is from GDDR3. And you are right about the fan I too wonder how loud it is.

I know you probably know this already. It takes up 2 pci slots. We might not know how this card works, but maybe the same drivers have been used, with another card. That's a lot of money to find out it don't work.

geposted Mon 11 Dec 06 @ 9:24 pm
I believe all the 1x00 cards use the same drivers.

its about 2 times better as it has a higher bus speed

Some notes about this card

Better have a damn good power supply to run this thing check out the wattage consumptions

X1950 XTX 293w 166w

First number is at full load second is at idle. Yes this thing will eat a 300 watt powersupply for lunch.

45- 50 DB on the noise guys. Not too bad

the X1950 XTX is the X1900 XTX .. yet with the one difference: namely gDDR4 memory. The extremely high memory bandwidth in this card will boost performance considerably. But overall not an huge improvement over

this card is a beast for sure. AMD thank you!

Right now I have a 500W X connect power supply, will that be enough or will I need MORE POWER!!!!!

Cyder drooling over an ATI card?
I thought you were an nVidia man ;)

Just look at that beast, who wouldn't drool lol.

Brian not to fear our friends at Nvidia have a card that totally destroys the ati :) of course its 200 dollars more but damn this makes me drool more then the ati. I think the 384 MI on this gddr3 would out preform gddr4 at 256 and its nvidia couldn't imagine this in sli mode, you'd need a nuclear power supply at that point though ;)
