- napster must be installed inorder to play the music. no napster = ERROR on loading
- music files are in 'wma' format, not mp3. NO MP3
- wma tags are not scannable by vdj.
- there is no way to convert Napster's wma file to mp3.
- you are not allowed to move songs to another computer. if you do, then prepare to download them all over again.
- you are not allowed to play songs on another computer. only "streaming"
- tech support always takes atleast 1 week before they reply. regardless of their 24/48 hrs reply.
- i hear... once you cancel your subscription, you will not be able to play napster music.
- you will be fored to cause physical damage to something/someone because of the anger you'll get from using napster.
- uses too much of the cpu.

Most of the Legal download sites are like this.
most of us work around this by burning tracks to an audio CD and re-ripping the tracks back onto our systems.
Pain in the ass but it works

You are right, but it doesnt need to be running, you can runi it like once a month to update and thats it if you want
music files are in 'wma' format, not mp3. NO MP3
As are most legal download sites
wma tags are not scannable by vdj.
Yes they are scannable.
there is no way to convert Napster's wma file to mp3.
Yes there is by removing DRM or pay $.99 a song then convert to MP3
you are not allowed to move songs to another computer. if you do, then prepare to download them all over again.
You are right, but you can sync your library on 3 computers
you are not allowed to play songs on another computer. only "streaming"
YES see above
tech support always takes atleast 1 week before they reply. regardless of their 24/48 hrs reply.
Call them during their business hours and they will answer
i hear... once you cancel your subscription, you will not be able to play napster music.
You are correct except for the ones you purchased
you will be fored to cause physical damage to something/someone because of the anger you'll get from using napster.
Maybe
uses too much of the cpu.
Doesn't really use CPU unless you are running Napster while gigging, but why do you really need to.
I have been usin Napster since it became "Legal" and myself I like it alot saves a ton of money.

yeah most of that was incorrect.......just burn to cd then rip, like marcel said.....i really like napster and i use beatport a little
one of VDJ's advantages over Traktor is it plays and scans wma
i object to drm and the whole licensing baloney cuz it just annoys the honest people and it doesn't stop any illegal activity......

THIS is why iTunes is dominant worldwide for LEGAL online downloads and every so called "iTunes killer" service has (or is) falling flat on its face.
Subscription services do NOT work for music as predicted by Steve Jobs. Most people want to OWN their music.
Movie subscriptions are okay though because most people won't watch a movie more than a handful of times, often times less than 2-3.
That is NOT the case with music where someone may listen to a song MANY times over a long peiod of time, often throughout their lifetime.
Note to Apple iTunes competitors:
"Get it? Got it? Good."

I dont know what the problem is here... I use it all the time and it works. Its like saying "I bought a corvette but I can't go offroading. I tried and my front end got torn off on a rock. So EVERYONE shouldn't buy a corvette.

say what? update? you mean it can expire? mother f...'s!!! i really hate napster now.

As are most legal download sites
which is why most of us don't use em.
wma tags are not scannable by vdj.
Yes they are scannable.
i mean that additional info. "tag info" like for mp3 it's id3. winamp reads the wma tag files, but vdj does not.
there is no way to convert Napster's wma file to mp3.
Yes there is by removing DRM or pay $.99 a song then convert to MP3
what is DRM, and how do i remove the DRM?
pay to convert? fine, i wouldn't mind making a 1 time payment of $100 in order to download mp3's alone. or have a program that will convert the music, and let me be. but there is no such deal.
you are not allowed to move songs to another computer. if you do, then prepare to download them all over again.

[*] so that when someone asks for a song i don't have, i can dl, and play on the spot.

the only reason i ever got napster is because of the 1. full tag, 2. create artist/album automatically, 3. all the music. 4. vdj integration
but the problem is that wma is not vdj friendly as mp3.
right click an mp3 file in vdj anc click on file info. see all of that extra info.
now right click a napster wma file. see how there is no info at all.
that's my problem.

1. Napster must be ran at least once a month to update the DRM on the songs
2. My point is, you stated you cant use these files on other machines, how many machines do you dj with??? You are allowed to sync on 3 systems.
3. Their phone number is on the site you open to add songs, I will tell you it is there and I will let you know exactly where it is after tonights gig.
4. For the $15 a month you get unlimited downloads, but they are protected DRM WMAs, the ones you purchased aren't protected.
I understand your points and they are valid, I wasn't expecting to get my head chopped off for tryin to help you. Your mind is made up, if you don't want to use it then don't, but I know a lot of happy users including myself and also the 7 bowling centers I supply music to. I am not upset, just simply tryin to help out.

oh, i'm sorry,
didn't know i seemed offensive to you. no harm intended, not at all.
:)
well fortunately, i found a way to "legally" convert the wma to mp3's.
yey
looks like i'll be staying with napster after all.
the most annoying thing about the wma files: it takes a while for winamp to load each song because it 'looks for the rights to play the song', so i can't random browse preview songs as fast.
and this is a very important tactic in selecting the music to play. let's be honest with each other. no dj can remember all the songs he/she has. but with winamp, you simply search for the genre, load the songs, hit shuffel, position cursor in the middle of the play slider, hit 'x' to play, then press 'b' then mouse primary button to preview next song in the middle. keep pressing 'b' then primary mouse button, until you find the one you want to add to the play list.
with mp3 files, this tactic goes hell fast, you can browse about 30 songs per minute. if you know the song, then even as high as 180 songs per minute. do you have any idea how helpful this tactic can be when under lots of pressure?

Ok, why are you using Winamp??? Just wonderin, No I am not offended or upset just wanted to help you with this issue.

here is why
imagine you having 1,000 songs. you never heard these songs. no clue at all. current song will last you about 1 more minute. so, you want to preview random songs. with winamp, you can, it reads and displays the genre, album, and time. hit shuffel and browse preview atleast 15 songs per minute. that's about 150 songs. found what you like? hit alt + 3 copy file dir/name goto vdj, paste, find, load.
very easily find songs to add to the sidelist/play list.
