Topic: Video freezing when loading 2nd deck HELP!

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I combed the forums here to find the best components for a VDJ computer and put together what I thought was a killer machine:

Intel Pentium D 940 3.20GHz Dual Core
2 G DDR2 533MHz Memory
XFX GeForce 7950 GT / 512MB GDDR3 / AGP 8x
EIDE Hardrive for Win XP SP2 and music
SATA Drive for Videos
Latest version of Direct X and all drivers.
All of my videos and DivX encoded and I am using the codec that came with VDJ.

Using TC CD in Pioneer 800s.

With all this - the video that is playing freezes when I drop a video into the second deck. CPU usage shoots way up to %100 and the other video skips for the 20-30 seconds it takes to load the new video. Really couldn't use my new machine at the last show because of these problems.

I didn't have these problems on an older slower machine with 1/4 the memory.

I emailed tech support 3 days ago but still haven't heard anything from them. I have read the forums for tweaks and fixes but haven't found many people agreeing to what works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hm.. There are 2 bottlenecks here which i'm reacting on..:

AGP 8X Graphics card?? Why? PCI Express is so much faster! Old and really obsolete nowdays.
EIDE drive for OS?? SATA or SATA2 is also a lot faster! Try setting the OS on it's own SATA(2) disc - EIDE is also quite obsolete, works for storage though.
What sound card are you using? Some internal devices could be insufficient for running professionally.

Have you optomized that system?? Have you changed your page file settings. Mine work great at no pagefile, but I get skips when I put any number in there. I also suspect an issue with the newest direct X. Ever since this update I have had weird weird video issues but they don't happen all the time this combined with the newest graphics drivers for me are a nightmare so I went back 2 drivers. Now I am talkin about ATI as that is my graphics card. Also you need to get rid of all the uneeded processes. I use a little program called EndItAll, it is great as I can leave my system alone and use all the stuff I want to when not djin, but I can kill those processes when runnin VDJ.

I found the guide for audio optimization and followed it. I set the page file settings to 0 now. It seems to have helped a little but I am still having the problem. Is there a guide for VDJ video optimization somewhere? I haven't come across one.

Do you think it would make a differewnce putting the OS on an SATA drive? Will that affect processing speed? I thought that the video would need the fastest transfer rate. Would it be better if they were on the same drive?

I am using a ESI US46DJ external sound card. Everyplace i checked was out of the Maya44 internal.

Try changing your performance settings in VDJ to Fastest and Auto for latency, then go into CFG, VIDEO and make sure Decode while hidden is checked. Yes the OS on a SATA is better.

You shouldnt set it to 0 unless you have 2 gig of memory or more and it may not work for everyone. How much memory do you have cause I would suggest you look through the blogs (skyfxl) which will tell you how to optomize your system.

To find page settings: start - control panel -system - advanced - performance - settings - advanced

Yes but instead of using 0, first try setting the min and max to the same number ie. the recommended which is shown below. If that doesnt work, remember what the numbers were and try no page file. If that doesnt work go back to the default numbers.

Also, have you tried stopping services that you don't need for virtual dj? (Pretty much anything to do with networking, etc.)

AGREED Andy that is a neccessity.

Mike you may wanna try to encode the videos to VOB instead of DIVX.

I am planning on ripping everything VOB from now on. Thanks for all the help guys. I think the major problem was that all my videos were on a SATA drive while the OS and VDJ were on an EIDE drive. Once I transfered the videos to the EIDE drive with the OS and program the problem pretty much went away.
