Well that's the whole concept of folders.
Your files from Akon are probably inside your garageband folder.
When you select a folder in the left view, it only shows the songs inside this particular folder.
If you want to see all your songs, type a star ("*") in the search field.
If you want to know where they are, right click on the song and select "go to folder", or right-click on the columns and add "filepath".
If you want to see all the songs in a folder AND all its subfolders, right click on the folder and select "recurse".

Actually , no they are on an external drive. The * works. I dont recall doing this is the past. Is this something new in 5.0?
Isnt there a default list of all songs?

The Search recognizes * and ?
For your second question, you can use a filter folder (for example: "isscanned=0 or isscanned=1").

I know this is the Mac Version - but you can look at the V5 User's Guide for some explanations on what features are new to v5.

And this is a quick guide to the improvements -

Plus I think Skyfxl has a guide out there that uses the Mac Screen shots.

Thanks. I worked with DJ Los over the weekend, and after seeing how it works, i like the new 5.0 browser now! Now as soon as 5.0 is ready for production for Mac, i wil ready to roll!
