I agree with RichardMa - I've not noticed any of the "low output" issues or distortion or awful mic quality.
On my unit, output volume is more than adequate to feed my powered speakers.
I tried an SM58 mic and didn't notice any problems (aside from needing to tweak the EQ, but that's common on lots of DJ mixers).
By the way, Leo from AA/ADJ said on the AA forum that there's a firmware update for the cue LED issue coming TONIGHT.

@RichardMA good luck with Saturday will be interesting to hear how it goes. Am curious about your first outing. Was the VMS4 plugged directly in to an amp or in to another mixer?
Cheers,
Roy

@Rick, sorry to hear you got the Mic issue as well. No I fear there's a lack of consistency in the units - some with good output volume, some with good mic and so on.
Maybe we have to keep returning them until a good one turns up...

Straight in to the amp from the phono outputs. I knew the signal was a lot cleaner as normally we are pushing the amp LED's up around 3 or 4 last night it was 2 to 3 for the same volume level. This is a weekly event and I am building up the sound sytem quality new amps/crossover/subs to get the quality I am after. If the VMS4 is not capable then it will rise to the top but as I say I am impressed with what I have seen.
Saturday I will be running next to a Ecler Nuo so should have a good comparison. I don't think we will be using a mic though.

Ok so other then the Mic (which I don't use, those are coming off the board) and the low volume (which is being debated) the unit does function great with VDJ, right.....?
@RichardMa, please post your findings when you compare it to the Ecler cause I also own an Ecler.
Thanks for ya'lls time

Hi Huey, yes it is excellent with VDJ. The cue bug is a pain but will get fixed soon I guess.

Huey,
Yes as far as the VMS4 and VDJ are concerned they fit like hand and glove. Will need to tweak the mapping at some point, but it works very well.

Roy

What mapping tweaks ???? Don't leave things hanging, if you don't like a mapping then just say it.
From the screen print of the units - the mapping is done exactly as the unit is labeled - with one exception - the HotCues are only 4 not 8 as the Shift+HotCue# is to delete cues 1-4 vs setting cues 5-8. I have already stated the 'non-documented' mappings in prior posts (i.e. Browser scrolling).
So, what is there to 'tweak'? And are these personal preference tweaks or tweaks because the button/knob/slider does not do what it should as labeled?

I never found any issues with the native mapping at all. Only thing I added was to use the search buttons to move 1 beat plus or minus while a loop is active. I am sure there is so much can be done but the native mapping was perfect for me.
That's the VMS4 collected today. Although several people have reported the mic channels being OK I just thought they distorted like hell. Back to the HC-4500 then .......

Personally Chris, I would have used the touch load pads for just that and use the touch sliders for record case scrolling.
The touch pad, left and right click is just not a mouse at all, and then if a shift function is in use its disabled anyway?
To have them <<>> on the track load when the jogs can do that even better makes no sense.
This shift & turn your stuff is for the birds imo
Needs to be one hand operation, again imo.

Can't be done because of how the touch sliders work .... this was the first thing that was attempted when trying to do folder and track browsing.

Then ADJ need to change the text of the VMS4 manual, because it says that they can be assigned to "...song scrolling, browser scroll...".

Would like an unload button for each deck. Also I'm not a fan of the current folder/track browser/load config. I rarely load tracks straight from the browser on to a deck. I'd prefer the shift+effect knob to switch between browser windows, then shift+press to load into the playlist. shift+sampler would scroll and load from the current window.

I've just been watching a YouTube video from January, back when the VMS4 was at trade shows, set up with Traktor.
The touch strips appeared to be working fine controlling the song scrolling in Traktor, so why is it a problem with VDJ?

AA have added a really patronising thread on their forum telling users how to use their mic properly. They should get feedback (sorry for the pun) from users and do some testing before coming out with that. It reads like they think we're all thick or something.

Yes, the so called 'Product Specialist' has also been busy telling someone that ASIO is only for time code use, and that ASIO won't work for broadcasting from VDJ.
Hmmm...

We've not had one reported freeze or crash, so that is great news.
Me too ! never heard about a traffic car crash when you 've got 4 flat tires!

The updated firmware is now available - but it's not on the VMS4 site!
Instead they've stuck it here http://www.americanaudio.us/pdffiles/vms4-firmware311.zip
Thing is, I can't get it to work - just keeps timing out.
Let me know if anyone gets it to take!
(later) Be aware that you have to deselect VMS4 sound in VDJ as well in order for this to work - even though VDJ isn't running.

Firmware updated. Didn't get any timeout issue and it went very smoothly. VU's light up at 3.11 too so that feature works well!
However, now that issue has been resolved I have found another to do wth the cues, but before broadcasting it I thought I'd check here forst to see whether a) this is the behaviour you expect and b) it's a firmware issue not a mapping/VDJ issue.
I have "Auto Headphones" set to "Automatic". Therefore I expect the cue to toggle between the two decks as it does with the RMX. However I am no longer getting any automatic cue selection whatsoever - I have to physically press the cue button to enable the cue.
I can do this on both decks and have them both coming the the pfl, but I would only expect this to happen with "Auto Headphones" set to "Disabled".
To add to the issue, it doesn't matter whether the cue is being turned on or off, pressing the button will highlight that deck in VDJ. This will have implications for other shortcuts as they would effectively be applied to the active deck right?
With "Auto Headphones" set to "Automatic" I would expect the two cue buttons to act as toggles when you press them, deativating the other deck. In fact prior to the firmware update it did attempt to do this, which is why I think its another firmware update that's required.
I'm uploading another video to demonstrate this (I do talk in it this time Rick!) and will post here as soon as it's available...

Roy

I noticed something new with the cues on mine too.
I had loaded a track on each player, and had them both playing.
Just messing about, I started scratching with both jog wheels at once, and noticed that the onscreen cue lights
were swapping from left to right as I moved left or right jog wheel.
I don't think it should be doing that.
