If I may ask, why did you pick this particular projector? I'm also shopping for one but I don't know squat about projectors.

i tried a projector for about a month. it was a lot of trouble(people stand in front of lens, can't find a
good place to project,a lot of moving parts..) i went in the local walmart and bought a 52'' flat screen for $899
and have'nt looked back since. now i have 2 52'' flat screens and it's amazing. btw im a mobile dj.

Use a DJ Screen with your projector for rear projecting, then go into the settings on the projector and set it to "Reverse Image" or "Rear Projection" mode depending on the unit you have, this way no one can walk in front of the image being projected. On the other hand they can still stand in front of your screen just the same as your LCD!! lol

Greetings...

On a mobile job I use an 80" screen for front projection, and I went to a fabric store and bought enough material to make a spandex rear projection screen. I use a carpet tube to protect it during transport.

I didn't like the bungee on a truss idea so I used wood sticks to clamp the spandex and black painted PVC tubing for top and bottom support. I made a mount hook to hang the middle of the screen to the truss, and velcro straps to support the ends. It works great. Only problem is it it gets dirty I will have to take it all apart.

I don't have a short throw projector so I need about 12 feet from projector to screen during rear projection. I put the projector in a corner of the room and truss 12 feet in front. Outside gigs no problem.

It depends on the function, room, and time of day on which screen I use. I don't like the projector to be exposed to guest traffic, especially with kids around. I'm not crazy about having my projector crash to the floor. These bulbs are $300 a piece.

At the club their projector is hanging from the ceiling with a pull down screen in front (much better idea). I hooked up their new LCD TVs along with the projector, and now the projector is looking a little washed out. But it is cool that all 4 devices are showing my video programming. Now when I play the Obama/McCanin/Palin dance off...more people turn their attention to the video and have a laugh.

I know what you mean, I've got a broken $300 lamp for my Mitsubishi projector sitting right here on my desk as I type this. I'm feeling you on that one.

I actually picked it MOSTLY because i'm getting one for cash and barter it's only costing me $300 cash with 14 hours on it and 2 months old. I also did check reviews and it seems to be a hot item.

I use both a LCD TV or a 6X8 Daylite Fast fold screen. It depends on the venue. This is a rear projection screen and I keep the bottom of the screen at approx 6 feet above the floor. This way everyone can see. The SOny projector has a low contrast ratio, you should shoot for at least 1-2,000. This allows for a much better picture.

kam,

So your screen is up 6' from floor, how do you have your projector set up? Must be on a tall tripod.

I'm looking for some kind of prism (inexpensive) to shorten my projection length. I was thinking about building a box with mirrors inside at the right angles to fill a truss screen. I just don't know how to bend a mirror. Acetelene torch ? Convex...right ?

Jim

it's all in the angles in the box you make...

haha funny you mention the mirrors. i got a piece of plexi glass mirror material and built a small pvc frame for the projector and then i have the plexi in front of the projector that shoots it back into the screen. increases the size pretty well for shorter distances.

You can purchase short and long throw lenses that will attach to your projector to change the throw ratio...

There expensive, and unless your in love with the projector you already have, i wouldnt recomend it... I recently purchased 3 BENQ MP512st digital projectors, they have a very short throw, and the black level is amazing, you can barely tell they are on without a picture... i paid under 600.00 each, and the light bulb doesnt cost a small fortune to replace...

When i travel, i dj abord the WSY Windstar where i project onto a huge radar ball... For this i use a Panasonic PTAX200-U. It has a 2X manual Zoom lense that allows for both short and long throw ratios... Its an HD720p projector designed for gaming... The refresh rate is highest of any video projector on the market... I can DJ on this thing, meaning ive actually projected the skin 20 feet in the air, and it feels like a computer monitor...

I recently purchased a 2nd unit for the club, and the price has come down to 800.00

Spandex is a great idea, and probably the most versital... just make sure its 2 way stretchable... I have a projector mount that ive attached clamps on to, that i use along with a heavy duty tri-pod and a small sand bag for weight...

Dont be afraid to try different surfaces, i use the floor of our swiming pool at my club as a giant out door video screen... also the projectors ive just written about have surface color detection so there able to make up for walls of different colors...

Any more questions feel free to contact me...

Best regards,
Chris.

I use a bogen projector with a custom shelf that the projector is attached.

video djing for the 1st time w/ a projector. can someone explain step by step how to set it up? I'm using vdj 5.0. Thanks

I was using a large projector for the last two years and decided to switch to pico projectors (mounted on my rig)
btw... I'm using standard artist canvases and mic stands for the projection screens ;o)

Now I'm working on screens for rear projection too.

That is a slick looking set up! Very nice!!

Thanks... 4 years in the making
