Been running with the Vestax VCI-100 & NI Audio Kontrol 1 Soundcard for over a year now.
Had some crashes with VDJ in the last year and keep getting told it may be a faulty VCI, or is it?
Been thinking lately of trying the Hercules RMX for; consolidating, convenience (one less USB wire to setup :-), flexibilty, can connect external sources easily, etc., etc. I don't scratch, so, that facility is not of any use to me (bigger platters on the VCI). Mic input (no eq, so, not sure if I'd use it, I normally use the main mixer XLR).
Just wondering would I be downgrading and lowering the sound quality I currently have with the AK1 too much? Would anybody really notice apart from me?
Had a bit play with one on Tuesday at a local dealers, seemed fine. Been watching sales of VCIs and AK1s on ebay and could probably sell mine to cover the cost of the RMX (money is not the issue, just trying to justify it I suppose), just don't know whether it's worth jumping ship or not.
Discuss..........

Just a thought Les, you could keep your soundcard and go for the Steel or the Numark Stealth instead
I've been using the RMX at my Bar gig in town for well over a year now and haven't had any problems. I play Funky/Vocal House, some Electro and Chart stuff and the RMX is just fine for that. All I have to do in plug myself in to the house system and away I go.
I don't think no-one will notice the sound difference, I've had no-one come up to me and say, that sounds crap. I think you will be quite surprised how it sounds on a good system!
One thing though, the RMX doesn't look as pretty as the VC100 with all the back lighting it has, lol

Hi,
I'm using the VCI-100 and the U46DJ, I've had no stability issues with this set-up.
What exactly happens?
I think you should keep your current set-up, the VCI is the better product and your current soundcard probably has louder outputs.

Don't think there'd be much point in changing if I just got the Steel.

But the RMX I was checking out had blue backlit buttons similar to the VCI, I'm puzzled what the difference is..........

Had three crashes with Ver 6.0.1, but, I also had 3 or 4 crashes with the earlier Ver 5.2.1, each time I've submitted the crashguard report I'm told it's an external crash and 'maybe' a faulty VCI Controller.

Yes it does, but not all of the buttons have the back lighting, only 16 do. The VC-100 seems to have more and looks better cosmetically that's what I use trying to say.
But the RMX is a lot more rugged than the VC-100 thats mainly due to it's aluminum case it has, and the plate of steel inside it.

I don't agree, the VCI is very heavy and strong, imo it feels stronger and more tactile.

@ Soulman,
Have you tried using VDJ with another controller or no controller? It seems a bit too easy to blame the problem on a faulty controller, unless there were proper grounds in doing so. For example if it happend when using Traktor, or never happens with controller x.

Two things;
First - I have got a Faderfox DJ2 that I used to use before the VCI. Snag is, it got damaged when I was carting it around as a backup. The right hand chanel fader was badly bent, after straightening it so that it could be moved it no longer works. I don't have access to any other controller.
Secondly - I don't really have an option of using a mouse as I only had three crashes during 118 hours of gigging. That works out at around 40 hours before a crash. That's how rare & random it is + I have no fancy for attempting to use the program in my nightclub residencies with a mouse only, it's just not an option.

Based on what you've just said I very much doubt it's a controller issue. Perhaps the soundcard, are you using USB power or mains? If you're using the USB to power it then try switching to the mains.

Just gone the other way actually. While using 5.2.1 I had the VCI mains powered. Since using 6.0.1 I switched to USB power in an attempt to solve the crash problem which is even more infrequent now.
The Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 Soundcard is USB powered with no alternative option.

Version 5 to version 6 introduces changes in which the VCI-100 works, so that's not a fair test.
Try mixing using the Audio control as the only soundcard, and whilst mixing unplug it, what happens?

Unplugging the AK1 while mixing stops the track and nothing more as expected.
Plugging it in again and the track continues where it left off.
I assume this is what you meant.

Oh sheet, I think I've just gone and bought a new Hercules RMX!!! LOL
I just thought today that, with the inputs on this RMX, I should be able to use TC, shouldn't I?
There we go, found a reason to justify buying a new bit of kit :-)
Drivers downloaded and updated, all installed and working, just having a "get to know you session" 'cos we're going 'live' with this at my residency tonight..........
.........all being well, next stop ebay ;-)

Yep, You can attach TT's or CDJ's to the Inputs and use timecodes. I've only tried it once but it was fine. What do you make of it so far mate.

Rubbish............ LOL just kidding.
Seems fine, couple of gripes;
The "Kill" buttons give no indication whether they are engaged or not, can only tell by the sound.
According to the manual I should be able to scroll up and down in the browser with the jogwheels by holding down the "up/down" buttons at the same time as rotating the jogwheels. That's not working. Maybe its only in the VDJ C version as supplied on the CD, haven't installed that.
Gonna download the Timecode CD files and burn them for tomorrow night, my other residency has a pair of CDJ1000 MK IIIs. Might go in early and have a bit tinker around. Still got my 1210s setup at home, might even get the Vinyls for a bit of fun.

Yeah it did work like that up to and including Virtual 5.2.1.
I mentioned it a few times in the beta testing of V6 but I think the team left it for the users to sort out. There is a work around for it using the VDJscript. If you look you're find the solution. I haven't tried it but others have got it to work.
As for the Kills I agree with you. They do need back lighting or something.

Ha! Beat ya to it. Downloaded cioce's Mapper package from the Hardware Tech Support. Now got blinking pause/play lights and jogwheel scrolling using the cue select button. :-)
There's more ways to do it, just gonna try this for tonight.

Jeez!!!! Just bought the RMX. Got a text from my Saturday residency club owner at 4.15am this morning. He and his manageress have decided to change the DJ (erm me) to take a different musical direction!!! After 3 years working with one hand tied behind my back with his music policy restrictions I was intending to ask him tonight to lift the restrictions as we are fighting for an ever reducing crowd due to the CC. He has offered me a bar DJ job a few yards away, but I know it will be rubbish money, worked a coupla nights there last year.
Thats a third of my income gone! Anybody want a nightclub DJ/VJ for Saturdays??? :-(

The restrictions were OK a year ago, but, we are now fighting for every customer because of the CC. If only he would let me be a DJ with all my 32 years of experience I could make it the best club in town. Too much interference these days. We are ONLY getting 400 in every Saturday @ £5 entry fee by his own admission 2 weeks ago (holds 500). Thur, Fri & Sun are getting less than half that number, figure that one out!!!
