Topic: Deck A stops unexpectedly

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hey all,

So I've been using VDJ and a Hercules DJ Console Mk. II on Mac OS X 10.5.8 for about a year now with very few problems, and I've found it to be an altogether reliable and enjoyable program.

I recently hit a major snag, however.

Starting about a month ago, the track on Deck A would simply stop playing, randomly. It doesn't just pause, either: it goes back to the beginning of the track or to the cue point I started from. I can't figure out any rhyme or reason to it. I got fed up with it reset my VDJ (using v. 5.2.1, because I don't like using the Mk. II with v. 6 -- don't think the pitch knob is sensitive enough) to factory settings about two weeks ago and the problem seemed to be fixed.

But as of yesterday, it's back. And I can't get it to stop. Do you guys have any idea of how to fix this?

Thanks,

NowhereManXP (a.k.a. DJ Who?!)

Do you get the same problem with the MKII unplugged??

It sounds like a problem with the controller as opposed to the software. Possibly a sticky button or something as simple as that??

Thanks for the feedback!

I tried unplugging the Mk. II and, indeed, I didn't get the problem for the 10 or so minutes that I ran the program. I haven't run it for longer than that, though, and sometimes it takes a while for there to be any trouble.

None of my buttons are sticky, however, so I don't know if that's it...

I forgot to mention that when I reset VDJ to factory settings, I also changed out the USB cable from the Mk. II. Could it be something to do with the USB port?

Thanks,

If you dont get the problem with the MKII unplugged then it has to be one of four things:

1) A USB port problem - trying switching the ports if you can and see what happens.
2) Faulty USB cable - unlikely as you have already changed it.
3) A driver problem with the MKII - check you have the latest drivers installed
4) A faulty button internally - how you would test this i dont know.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem with the MKII???

If it helps any, I just noticed something. When this occurs, the "cue" button on the screen is pressed -- even though I'm not touching the Deck A cue button on the Mk. II or touching any keys. The Deck A cue button on the controller doesn't stick, either. The cue stays "held in" (so to speak, as it's a virtual button on the screen) until I click on it. Could it be an error in the program itself, to cause this?

Thanks,

I can't see it being an error in the software - this is the only case i've heard of this occruing. I have just tried to replicate it, and i can't.

Are you doing anything else on your system when it "cues". Using the keyboard for searching, using the mouse or anything like that.

Also, did you check your drivers were up-to-date for the MKII??

djtouchdan,

Yep, all the drivers are up-to-date. Did that today, in fact. Same problem.

I've been doing a number of things when I've encountered it. I've been messing with my EQs, searching, upfading, having a cigarette. :P It happens no matter what I'm doing.

I'm thinking you were right about it being something wrong with the Mk. II. Perhaps the "cue" button is breaking... Any way I could find out how?

Thanks,

to eliminate it being anything with your machine and pointing the finger the directly the MKII. I would try to get access to another machine, a friend or something like that. Hook the MKII up with a new (or at least tried and tested USB cable) then see if happenes again.

If it does do it then - it must be the controller. If it doesnt the that indicates a USB port error on your machine.

My money is on the controller.

As for getting the MKII fixed, a computer repair shop might take a look at it for you unless you have a specialist DJ repairs - they might do too.
