I was working a gig on Saturday night and about half way through my system was stuck on the SYNC feature between the two decks. I don't know how it was turned on, but the worst part was i couldn't disable it.
Every oncoming track would attempt to auto-synch the beats. I'd load the oncoming song, and it's BPM would match in the player. Adjustment of either side's pitch would adjust both songs. I couldn't JOG out of beat either (so if VDJ was a bit off, i couldn't adjust). Some incoming songs would synch up or adjust properly. But sometimes the active track would be the one to adjust. Worse, it would sometimes adjust the active song by juggling, skipping or even braking backwards - not good when that's the active track on the dancefloor. (On some songs, every time i tried to cue or preview the oncoming track, the active track would "adjust") I tried about every variation of clicking the SYNC button (left click, rt click, shift, etc . . .) setting the little lock icons on/off, etc. Even loaded the user manual in the background and was checking that in between tracks. After about 20-30 minutes and a bunch of odd stares to the dj booth, I finally threw a song off my handy-dandy-backup iPod, restarted VDJ and it was clean for the rest of the night.
I've played with the SYNC feature a bit, but have never actively used it at a gig, so i'm not super knowledgeable of it. I think it was working properly (though randomly and at times, crappy, which confirmed why I never intend to use it) The problem here is that it got activated somehow but I couldn't de-activate it.
I'm running VDJ6.1 on WinVisa with a Denon HC4500 controller. I've done about 50-60gigs in addition to alot of practice with this system over the last year and have never seen this before. This is the biggest hiccup I've had with this system - and the first time i've had to ever shut down in the middle of a gig. Otherwise, rock solid.
Either i activated something strange, missing something super obvious, a bug, or something on my controller??

You activated beatlock either via shortcut or skin button.
Best thing is to go into the options and change "Disengage Beatlock" to "On Load". That way if you ever activate it loading the next track on that deck will disable it.

Never even heard of the feature until now. Thanks. That makes sense - though can't confirm it right now as my control/case is locked away.
I did just find in the mapper that it's simply engaged by hitting "B" on the keyboard. It seams that "BeatLock" is NOT the same as the SYNC feature/button. There appears to be no other display/control icon/button on the default VDJ6.0 Pro skin, so i must have accidentally hit the "B" on the keyboard. Trust me, I spent the good deal of 15-20 minutes hitting every lock, button, indication and other 'guess' i could as my tracks were being effed.
IMO - There should be a better indication (or should say 'any indication') to the user when it's engaged, and the config should be set to Disengage "On Load" by default.
I just removed the keyboard shortcut from my Mapper file, and I recommend others to do the same if they never intend to keep you beats locked.

The worst thing about this feature is that it's the live track that suddenly jumps to another BPM.
As has been mentioned on here several times before, by myself and other users, that should not be allowed to happen. It should never be the live (playing) track that changes - it should always be the one you're loading that changes to fit the playing track.

Exactly! I had a full dancefloor that could have told us that on numerous occasions. I've literally never had so many quick, and curious stares at once. I looked like the tool and a half, worse for doing it more than once. IMO, One of the worst 'Features' in the otherwise incredible system.

Nothing beats knowing your software, but we all make mistakes. As SBDJ mentioned, you can handle this in options, or stop all keyboard shortcuts in mappers. That's what I do.

This happened to me before. every hit S by accident when you think you had the search box highlight.. :-( music stop!!! YIKESS!!!
here's a tip..
go into the shortcut section and remove everything you do not use.
I use controllers. so my keyboard can never. Start/stop a record or do anything of the sort
my keyboard shortcuts actually only has few things:
Cue points
Loops
Pitch Bend (I still like using the arrows for some reason)
samples
Smart Scratch on/off (this was added because of a bug.. the toggles on the deck seem to work all the time now)
Controller Rescan (the denon s3700 don't like going from CD mode and back without rescan)
KISS is my motto... (Keep it simply, Simple)
DJ SMG!

I've enabled the SYNC LOCK feature by accident although I swear I never hit the button. Lol..
If you don't use keyboard shortcuts you can disable them all in the controller area with on click or like haz0rd aid delete the ones you don't want.

In earlier versions of VirtualDJ, beatlock was mapped to B, which is very easy to trigger by accident.
I would recommend checking your mappings and changing this to SHIFT+B if necessary to avoid accidental triggering (Or you can delete the mapping if you never use it.)
