Topic: cdj-350 or cdj-850 ?

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hi there guys :)

I need a piece of advise from you. I´m on my way to pruchase some new hardware. I´ve already decided for the Pioneer Djm-800(love this one, fidn it really easy to work with). But my main issue is that I do not know what players to choose. I´ve been looking on the cdj 350 & 850,but as what I´ve understood, both of them have same support for software. I have not been able to actually try them out,so I just want to know what players to choose. I´ve been playing cd´s mainly togehter with Vdj & a Herc mk2 on separate channels.

so what is the difference between the 350 & 850 ? Pros & Con´s ?

I´d really appriciate your feedback & info !

I got to demo both the CDJ-850 and the CDJ-350 and they were both great, but as an owner of CDJ-800s and CDJ-1000s I felt right at home with the CDJ-850s.

One major advantage the CDJ-850 has over the CDJ-350 is the built in audio interface. With the CDJ-350 you would need an external sound card. (Edit: Ignore this, the CDJ-350 does come with a built in audio interface)
Another major advantage is the jog wheel, while the jog wheel is not bad at all on the CDJ-350 it is much smaller since its a smaller unit. If you are used to playing with the larger Pioneer jog wheels like I am, you might find them a bit small for you, but you can get used to them after playing with the decks for a while.

There's a few things that I liked about the CDJ-350
1) I loved the looping section on the CDJ-350, I think if I was mixing regular music CDs I would find it more fun on the CDJ-350, I use a lot of looping so the CDJ-350 looping section would be great for me to use.
2)The CDJ-350 also has an Auto BPM Lock feature that basically acts like a sync button. It will sync up the music playing off your CD. Kind of handy if your to lazy to mess with the pitch or if you don't know how to play by ear.

Other than that, both units basically offer you the same features. I guess it will all come down to how much money your willing to spend and what features are important to you.

Thanks for the feedback MAGAGAR80 :)

Since I actually prefer to do things manually, ( looping etc ) I think I´ll go with the 850 due to the internal audio interface. ( have played on the cdj200,400,800 & 1000 earlier )

But I might change my mind, have not had the chance to try the 350. It is,as you say, it always comes down on the cash bit :)

Still though, thanks a lot for the feedback:) It helped out a lot !

CDJ-350 does embed an audio interface!!!

Really? I don't remember that since I used it in regular analog mode.

Anyway I stand corrected, I went to Pioneers website and they seem to have an ASIO driver for the CDJ-350
http://pioneer.jp/support/download/dj-e/cdj-350/driver_download.html
So it must have an audio interface, funny thing is that I don't remember reading anything about it in any of the specs I have read.

Well that would change everything for me, CDJ-350 is much more appealing to me now that I know it has an audio interface. Thanks TexZK for pointing that out.

That's why I'd love to buy them, they're perfect for any kind of media... and for VirtualDJ too ;-)
And, I've found a webshop in San Marino which sells them at a fair price. Unfortunately, there's no English version of the page, since San Marino "is in Italy".

Guys ! Thanks a lot for the feedback !

Well,if both have audio interfaces,then it´s a easy decision:D

Tex,I think I need to book flighttickets down to San Marino. Always wanted to see Italy ;)

I can happily info you that I´ve placed an order for Djm 800 and 2 CDj 850. Thanks for helping me out with my decision guys. Will post pics when the new gear arrives.

CDJ-850... those are nice guys! ;-)

BTW, San Marino isn't Italy :-P And, Italy has too many beautiful places to visit... I've seen only a few, even if I live there :D

Do a review am interested in the 850's myself, thanks

Oh trust me guys :) I will !

rane empath 2 is a three channel mixer and the best sound quality ever. very reliable.if the sound quality is what it matters then this is one way option.( ive already have pionner djm 700 and 800 and three vestax vmc as well.nothing can beat rane!)

Well,I´ve had the players for a coupple of weeks now,and I must say that I´m really impressed with them. Only drawback, what I can see,is that you have to use the pionner rekordbox software to preanalyse the tracks,no matter,it won´t show the waveform otherwise. I´ve tried them out with VDj 7.02,and they actually work great, but, there can be lots of improvements. For example, when setting up loops, you can hear when the loop end/starts(there´s like a swivle sound,as if it rewinds the loop) wich is kind of annoying. Otherwise they work great. Currently I´m at work, and very limited. Sorry for not posting a review earlier, had shitloads other stuff that needed to be done. I´ll post a full review later tonight.

Sorry for the delay fellas, but now, without any further redue, here´s my full review of the Pioneer CDJ-850.

First off,the finish.

The 850s really feel lika a nice piece of equipment, nice and sturdy, although built in plastic, they feel and behave really nice. The jog wheel is very accurate and does what a jog is supposed to do,without any fuzzing cool features like vinyl rotation etc.

Soundquallity when running mp3 usb sticks & cd:s are easilly comparable to the bigger cdj 900 & cdj 2000,although you could hear some difference between the 2000 & the 850.

All in all, first impression was WOW.

The negative thing I´ve found is that if you´re to run cd:s,the player won´t show you any wave form,as the predescessor cdj 800 did. Only way to get the wave form is if you pre analyze the track in Pioneers rekodbox software. I´ve read about this on the net,adn it´s a new concept that Pioneer are doing at the moment. Basiclly they want you to programme a set prior to going out on stage in the club. Nice idea,I do support it,since if you´ve got a pre arranged set, things will go better. But,in the real life as a club/bar/striptease dj,we all know that this won´t work as Pioneer wishes. That´s the first drawback so far.

When installing the rekordbox software, from the included disc(yes,I got two,one install cd with each player) it will also install the correct drivers needed to use the usb port(type B ) on the back, together with your computer & software of choice.

With the players connected to my Acer,I just had to press the pc mode button and the players installed automaticlly, without any fuzz.

I did scratch my head a while when setting it up in VDJ,but in the end I figured out what to do(this took me approximatly 15 min together with two smokes & 2 cups of coffee).

So,use of the cdj-850 with virtual dj. This is what you all have been waiting for.

It works, works prety good actually, but as always, there´s room for improvement.

1.Sometimes,when setting a loop via the loop buttons on the players or in VDJ,you can hear somekind of audio skip, just like if you´d rewind the looped part reeeeely fast. I have not had the time to troubleshoot this issue yet, as I´m working daytime for Sonys tech support, and my head is a mess when I get home. I´ll let you guys know if I manage to fix this or if I fail. Most likly,my computer is to shitty, and I am suspecting that it´s the computer causing the issue.

2.When in PC mode, the inner ring of the cdj,is not running smoothly, but I guess it´s a limitation of the hardware,so actually, nothing to blame on.

3.You can only use wide mode when plaing back cd:s, this option is not availible in any other mode.

So my fellow dj:s. If you feel that I´ve forgotten to mention something,or if you feel that you have some questions, feel free to email me or just write here in the forum, and I promise to answer as fast as I can.

best regards

Aron

Just wanted to let you guys know that the sound skip issue for my part was resolved by clicking safe mode ( activated it ) Most likly I´ve got som shit on my comp that´s causing the issue, but this works for the moment. If you want to hear the results, you can go to http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/92633723/file.html or tune in on www.radio.playfactory.se thiw weekend at 19.00 ( that´s swedish time,UK is gmt01 and East side of the states is +6 )
