Hi!

I've just got a Novation Nocturn. How do I get it usable in VDJ 7 Pro?

I'm feeling totally lost at the moment.

I have the Novation Automap 3.7 software running and I've set it up to use Automap MIDI for both input and output. I also assigned the MIDI channel 1 to the unit.

VDJ doesn't seem to recognize any MIDI source or other hardware. Also, there's no Nocturn or Automap in the Mac OSX MIDI Studio (Sound and MIDI settings).

However, when in Ableton Live, I can activate the Nocturn and Automap as a MIDI source and map the MIDI CC# to different parameters.

Any clues on where to start?

Short update.

I tried a MIDI keyboard with control knobs. It worked perfect. I could assign both the notes and the cc-knobs to different tasks.

The keyboard showed up as a MIDI wrapper. The problem with the Nocturn/Automap is that it doesn't show up in VDJ. It is some sort of virtual midi in/out port in Nocturn/Automap.

The plot thickens...

Which version of Virtual DJ you have? Make sure you have the latest one, because IIRC pre-7.0.2 had problems detecting some MIDI-devices. I recall having the same problem with my Denon DN-X1600.
 
VDJ is 7.0.3 (b358) and is the latest (for Mac i guess) according to the VDJ update function.

Automap is 3.7.

I suspect that the fact that Automap only presents itself as software/virtual MIDI source is the problem. I don't know, but i guess that VDJ only can connect to physical MIDI sources...
 
Try selecting "Simple MIDI mapper" form Virtual DJ mapper config and see if VDJ recognizes the device.
 
Doesn't help VDJ to detect the Nocturn. That was the method I used for the MIDI keyboard.

One of the questions at the moment is who to "blame", Novation or Atomix. Both claim to be MIDI compliant, but it seems that at least one of them are not 100% true on that claim on the Mac platform.
 
Finally some success!!! :)

Long story short: I turned on the IAC driver and VDJ recognizes that there is MIDI source. Then i tell Automap to send MIDI to IAC. And now I can get control data from the Nocturn into VDJ.

The thing I want to solve now is to send status from VDJ to Nocturn. I also would like to get a Launchpad work with the published Device and Map on this site simultaneously, outside the Automap/IAC track.
