How much ram is needed to run virtual on a 64 bit machine running Win 7?
Is it even recommended to run Virtual on a 64 bit machine? Is anything special needed to make it work properly?
I am having issues with memory when playing videos!
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R mother board.
Intel i7 920,
3 Gig Ram,
Delta 1010LT
ATI Radion HD 4600 with 1 gig dedicated video mem ,
Acer AL2216W,
and Win 7 ultimate.
This Rackmont has 5 hard drives (approx 6 TB) for videos (Indian and American), Karaoke and Audio.
Thanks

if you have windows 7 (64bit) just like i do why not just max out the laptop's ram spec's ? meaning mine max's at 8gb so i upped my ram to 8gb from 4gb just to no i have that cushion. thats the whole difference mainly between 32bit & 64bit = more ram/memory

For windows 7 running 64 bit, You need 8 gigs of ram to run stable. It can work with 4 but why deal with putting strain on your laptop.

Good evening,
On a computer-based AMD triple-core and Windows 7 / 64 I have 4 GB of RAM and it works fine for music and videos!
By cons I have a graphics card with dedicated memory 1GBDD3 (ie specific to the card) and especially not to use shared memory!

i have 4 gig ram on my x64 laptop, but im planning to max it out to 8 whan i can afford too. i also wouldnt mind putting in bigger processor in. one thing i like about acers is they are easily upgraded.
though i did just upgrade my toshiba from a 1.7ghz single cpu to a dul core 1.9ghz , and that was only about 20 mins work.

I have 3 gb ram and am having problems with video using it all up. My video card has 1 GB ddr3 dedicated memory, but still I am having problems. The Board can handle 6 GM, so I'll get another three GB tomorrow.
Other posts have said that the problem was with the drivers for the ATI Radeon 4xxx series cards.
I don't have a problem getting the additional ram, but don't understand why the 64 bit system would need so much more?
So far I see no benefits from having a 64 bit system, only problems.

Max it out to 8, Not to 6 gigs. Ram is not expensive to buy. All the new videos that are being relase are 720p and 1080p quality. You want your laptop to handle it well. Buy ram online.. Not at the store.

It's not a laptop, it's a self made rack-mount with 5 hard drives.

Max up the ram. Windows 64 bit uses more resources and thats why it allows you to use add more. Video mixing wit the the newer Hd videos will put strain on your machine if you dont have enough ram.

Well I did not max out the Ram as the mother board can handle over 20 GB, but I did add 6 more to make it 9 gb. I then ran a couple of really large videos thru VDJ and the performance monitor shower that about half was used.
Thank god that problem had been solved!
Now to try my first SSD drive, yee ha!

Just to tease you all..
I can run perfectly 720p videos and karaoke (on 6 external screens), using a laptop with Win Xp pro (32bit), Intel Onboard graphics, Intel core2duo, 2 Gb Ram...
Performance is very good and i like to work fast.. Of course machine is well optimized for audio and cpu never goes more than 20% when i use video, 5% for audio only - default Pioneer cdj asio 5.6ms.
Now how about this ?

Well Apopsis, what else would we expect from a Atomic Productions employee!
Thats just awesome. Now can you come over and fine tune all my machines?

Hi Guys,
I,m am a professional Dj, but still fairly new to Vdj. I find it an awesome program, and it has really changed my presentation as I have always worked directly from Cd,s until a year ago.
The problem I have come across is my new laptop being Windows 7 Home premium (64bit) with 4Gb Ram and 500Gb internal Hardrive. All to often Vdj (7.05b) hangs/freezes. Your all saying to max out the ram. In my case that would be to 8Gb. Before I do that, bear this in mind. When running Vdj, with videos my system is using approx 7% Cpu and only approx 42% (3.68Gb available), of memory therefore still leaving 2.13Gb free!
I told you I am new to Vdj, so please help and explain what improvement I can expect by max out RAM when over half of my existing RAM is still available! I,m confused
Does it show that I,m not a computer boffin..........
Waiting in anticipation

If your laptop has a ATI video card and you are mixing videos, then this is due to faulty video drivers. Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Video%20Memory%20Issue.html
VirtualDJ is a 32-bit application so will not be able to exceed 2Gb. Installing more RAM will not help (A 32-bit application cannot use it anyway.) Only updated drivers from your computer manufacturer that report the correct amount of video RAM to VirtualDJ can correct the problem.

if you guys have problems, just turn off hardware acceleration from the video settings.
geposted Fri 09 Mar 12 @ 12:39 am
If you do that, most video effects and transitions won't work (They need the hardware acceleration to function.)

Im running a dual processor machine with 8gb of RAM im having to shut off the wifi because i need to disable the firewall, security center, windows updates, windows defender among others...
I find that these processes are hogs, and im not going to go online without them.
My system runs smoothly once these processes are disabled even when im using video files of 200mb+ and using plugins such as text 2 screen, text scroller, logo display...
My machine came with 4gb of RAM but upgraded thinking that that might solve the problem, ended up reformating only to find that i had a faulty hard drive and that these processes were the reason i was having issues...
