Hi, I have a American Audio VMS4 and want to use it to input the sound from a electric guitar using the RCA Inputs. Although I am asking about the VMS4 in particular i would assume that this question also applies to all other "All-In-One" controllers that accept analog inputs, and Mixers with USB outputs.
Now before I go out and purchase the full version of VDJ 7 Pro I want to know if I am going to need any additional hardware like the Maudio Conectiv or another Digital Interface box to send the signals from the guitar into VDJ digitally, allowing me to apply effects live while the instrument is playing.
I know that Atomix has listed as a feature that you should be able to do this:
Always wished you could run your analog device input or maybe a live musician through your software? Now you can by bringing them all together inside VirtualDJ.
With VirtualDJ 7, you can set as many input channels as your audio hardware supports and route them to any deck at will.
You get full control on the input stream, including applying effects, visualizing the beat-waveform, synchronization, beat-matching, and more.
You can also instant-record a portion of the input stream, and then replay and scratch it as you want.
How would one go about setting this up with the VMS4? Is it even possible to use the soundcard / ASIO drivers included with the VMS4 to digitize the analog signal coming from a Guitar, or would I need a separate digital interface box?
I have been looking around the forums at posts explaining how to setup the VMS4 once you have VDJ Pro and the DjDad Sound Setup guide only mentions Timecodes or just 4 MIDI decks, making me question the ability of the VMS4 to do what I want. Also related to this, if you use the VMS4 to control Timecode CD/Vinyl is that a digital signal being routed into VDJ? Cause if so it would seem that the VMS4 is capable of digitizing any analog input, you just need to know how to configure it within the program?
If anyone could shed some light on this issue, id appreciate it, so I know what I need to purchase in the future, to make this work.

OK, first of all the output level from a guitar is very different from that of a CD player etc.
It's not suited to being plugged in to RCA stereo line inputs.
You stand more chance of using a guitar by plugging it into a mic input.
But there's the problem. The mic inputs on the VMS4 have got a lot of stick from users because they have very little overhead and distort really easily. So you'll probably find that they'd be unusable for playing a guitar through.
I think you'd be best off buying a dedicated guitar pre-amp rather than the VMS4.

Look for a user named "Tracker", he does this all the time with his Hercules RMX and he hangs out in the skins forum.
He should be able to better help you
