I'm in the market for a new computer I want to buy a Mac but the price is 2 to 3 times more than a PC. All so what about all in one PC's or Mac.

Oh dear God. This post is gonna start a Sh*t storm!......lololol.......Everybody will tell you there there personal favorite is the best. Here is my UNBIASED (as possible) opinion....
1. Both do the same thing
2. Mac's often times are liked because of their straightforward simplicity. A lot of ppl. who aren't "computer ppl." like Macs. Easy to use.
3. You pay dearly for ease of use and the name brand (sry. fanboys, that is just a fact.) Macs are the chic defacto go-to in the music world, although that is changing.
4. PC's are more customizable, more versatile, but with that comes the fact that they often need to be tweaked to get the best performance out of them.
5. PC's have a massive amount of applications and software that can be ran on them. Mac's are a bit more limited as everything for Mac's is i this and i that. With Macs you almost buy into a lifestyle. That can be handy however as all of Apple's products work well together.
6. No matter what you are told, Macs ARE susceptible to viruses, like all computers. The fact is that there are millions of more PCs in the world than there are Macs and that is why you hear about PC viruses much more.
7. Don't believe the theory that with a Mac the high price means better quality, not so. PCs and Macs share many of the same components, on the inside. While it is true the the Mac O.S. tends to behave with a bit more stability than Windows, if you know how to set your PC up and tweak it properly (plenty of Youtube vids and tutorials on this tweaking) you will have no problems.
So I say bottom line, if money doesn't matter, get the Mac. If your a "techy guy" and like computers and like to do lots of different things with them, get a PC. If you plan on ever doing in music production with a DAW, go with the Mac as they are the standard in the music industry. (but that too is changing)....The last option would be the best of both worlds, running Bootcamp on a Mac. Bootcamp simulates a Windows environment on an Apple machine.....Best of luck. I hope this helps.....

If it's for djing with VDJ get a PC, there is more extras at the moment making it the best... But I assume the gap between atomix's support will close for VDJ8... but still most of the community made plugins are PC only and usually they are better than the native stuff from atomix. If you get a mac you can also use bootcamp to dual boot windows and OSX on different hard drive partitions.

no, krad, he probably hasn't with the way the search engine "works" in the forums and he was asking personal preference questions.
right now i say save some money and go with the PC - more cost effective and you can customize it more, and even the non-computer friendly people can upgrade them fairly easily.

Well oh well... Its been said and I will say it again:
If you have the money buy a MAC and bootcamp it to run Win7. This is what I run as well as many others here. Why? They simply do not crash and are more dependable hardware. I love both Win7 and Mac OSX. I have the best of both worlds.
If I want to do some music work in Logic or Ableton I can boot into OSX (Lion) and do it.
If I want to run VDJ with PC Plugins and SMS to Screen I can boot into Win7 and do it.
I personally think this is the best option to cover all the needs.
If you can't afford a MacBook Pro then I would recommend an ASUS Laptop with Win7. However I would try my best to stretch and get a MBP/bootcamp.

@ Krad....YES I have seen the thousand other threads discussing this issue and in my opinion it is one big sh*t storm with everyone competing to say the other guy's preference in computers is no good....That's all...Thanks for keeping me on my toes though, Krad =D

Of course Macs crash.......they're computers. Linux/Unix computers crash too.
Macs can crash, Macs can get viruses and trojans - they're not indestructible.

I agree with Groovin and that don't happen much, lmao!! Anyways I've never had a crash live with my PC an Asus of course, lol!! The only time it's crashed is when I was at home testing out new VST's. Just follow VDJ's recommended specs and find an Asus that meets those specs.
Good fellas.........

How much Djin will you be doing with your new computer Not free'bee or at home ) you need need a tool that will work when you push the power button to turn it on W/Out NO Problem & your Computer is the 1st step.I had 99% problem with my PC ( Not VDj ) but the computer drivers,AND updates ALL THE TIME,I save my money got a macbook pro 13" from apple NOT USED so I know there wood not be No problems. For the time and head pain and $$$$ repair bills The Macbook Pro is the way to go in my BooK.That is A Working tool for Djin must Have .2yr and work like I just Open it out the box.If you just Dj free party and small gigs under 20 pep 5x a yr and also @ home then PC is the way to go. Good Luck

If you get a Mac you can run both windows and Mac on the same machine. There are small advantages to that

I'm just as much a Window 7 guy as I am a MAC guy. They both have their purpose. I have two Win7 laptops (3 if you count my Bootcamp partition) and 2 MBP and 1 MB air. I'm not starting anything I use them both and love them both depending on what I am doing and need done. I use both everyday of the week. Relatively speaking I have maybe one glitch on Mac to every 10 on Win. Not that they happen often just much further in between on Mac than PC.
And I agree with djjohnnyrox. There are some advantages to this combination as stated before.

IE my fellow DJ at my Club is running VDJ like me on on a MBP he has had 2 crashes in the past year and myself with a tweaked Asus running 7 ?
you guessed it zero crashes and i work as many if not more days a week. I think , at least right now VDJ runs better on PC but that is just my opinion. FYI this laptop never sees the internet.

I have only bluescreened once this year and can't remember the one before that on my pc... It happened because of photoshop, I've had plenty of crashes in vdj from testing random vst's off the web but never a BSOD, I don't understand the argument that windows isn't stable as I have hardly had problems... accept when I got over 100 viruses & trogens from a dodgy website which tricked me into downloading their viruses by mimicking the windows security warning... bastards lol!

^^^ Like Syn said, you know how to take care of a PC, you will have no more issues than with a MAC.....Ppl. like MAC b/cause "for the most part" they are plug and play....Some other guy posted above: "I've have 99% problems with my PC and VDJ." I CAN GUARANTEE YOU that it was user error or a PC that he or she didn't know how to fix........I'll just go on and say it. Don't pay for a hipster name and gimmick, get a REAL machine and learn how to use it. Get a PC,.....and it is only a matter of time before Macs fall off (especially with their all powerful Mac-God Stevie Jobs gone) you are not going to even have a clue how to deal with a REAL COMPUTER...........Let the hate mail start flowing, Fan-boys!..... =D ......btw viruses and Trojans are a NON ISSUE if malware scanners and a regular anti virus are in constant use......Once infected they are ZERO problem to get rid of either....It's fear mongering that scares the civilians off of PCs.......Win 7 is VERY and I mean VERY stable......
.....Oh and the ppl. that say STAY OFF THE NET WITH YOUR DJ PC.....I completely disagree. Unless you have no idea of what you are doing. I have ONE lappy, On the net 24/7..... I also take it out and earn $$ DJing...Guess how many crashes? ZERO......It is knowing how to tweak, protect, scan regularly and clean up your machine.....and btw.......porn sites are frequently accessed on same PC......lolol....no issues....I run Avast A/V, Rkill process killer, Malware Bytes and Ccleaner with regular scans behind dual firewalls (one local, one on the router)......no problems on my 4 year old ACER.......NONE.
....One last tip. If you run a Windows PC and it is used for browsing the interweb as well as for gigging, for heaven's sake take the time to clean all of the caches, registry errors and junk out first (using a product like Ccleaner,) WITH A REBOOT BEFORE trying to gig. That is a number one PC problem generator in my opinion......Simple house keeping fellas.....

I have both and use both however I prefer mac with my setup. I use timecode vinyl and find the mac to be more responsive andaaccurate. I get much more latency issues when I use PC.... but if I'm not doing time code I find The pc performs just fine. Overall I prefer mac tho
geposted Thu 19 Jul 12 @ 12:03 am
I might agree....Timecodes are a totally different monster. I have zero experience with. Lots more to go wrong imo.....Good point.....

Thanks for the insight. All high end DJs (those that cater to the uber crowd) tend to use MBP and that Serato product.
The mac culture made a name for itself like Bose w/ audio - complete w/ haters on both sides.
When I downsize my rig, I will get a MBP and just plop W7 on it. Not mac for my sake, but for perception and marketing.
