Topic: New Karaoke feature - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

I upgraded my VDJ account with the new karaoke feature with the idea that if I use this feature once a month and it makes the customers happy its worth it. Last weekend I DJ'd a Filipino 60th birthday party and of course the karaoke feature stole the show. The guests were slow dancing (lights off and snuggling) two their young nieces and nephews singing a variety of tracks.

Good on you VDJ team for adding this feature in a more organized fashion.

BUT!!!!!

This application (for Mac) was buggy as hell.

I had to not touch the system until the track fully downloaded, reset my video out put, and not cue fast-forward or adjust the track in anyway shape or form for the lyrics to stay in- sync with the video . Not to mention a bag full of other random bugs such as solid color screen not lyrics, transition from the other deck not fading the video, and download stream errors (could be my internet stick) and lyrics freezing halfway through the song

Please consider making the karaoke tracks MP4 rather than having the graphics trying to track the audio.

Its the first run you will get there. Good thing this feature was a bonus and not my main gig.
The library needs to be more robust as well. Please make sure to add the standards like Bob Marlee.

If you want to use the new VDJ karaoke feature make sure you have a solid fast internet connection.

Have a great one guys.

You could try caching the songs to disk first. This will avoid any issues if your Internet connection can't keep up with the streaming (Video files are much larger than audio) and also means that you can also play the songs off-line too - Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/ContentUnlimited%20Offline%20Use.html

The karaoke library is very new and will be expanded over time - Content from Sunfly should be added soon which will increase the catalogue significantly.

Going out to do a show depending on downloading songs on the fly is the worst idea ever, if you must use the service in this way I would lay off taking any gigs until you have a sufficient enough cached library before doing another karaoke show.

In my eyes too many people have got the wrong idea about this service and want to wake upto the stark facts that it is there primarily as a back up service when you need a hidden gem of a track that you don't have when a customer comes up for requests.

Don't use it as a resource for acquiring tunes to run your shows off.

Don't get me wrong I love the feature and I rather have it with bugs than not at all. It was the star on my last gig and now has the wheels turning on how I can make money off of this. I would have never considered myself a karaoke DJ but I must admit it was fun. If there is a market out there for it then I am into it.

A few questions:
-Am i supposed to be able to change the key or tempo while keeping the lyrics in sync? If so could the next revision show the key change in the text cover page?
- in future revision would there be multiple songs versions to chose from in different keys signatures for example?
- Will a bundle be available to buy the entire data base so we don't need to down load the tunes?

The challenge with this gig was I had not intended on using the Karaoke feature at all. It came up as btw type request and Virtual DJ delivered as ussual. With this in mind I simply turned my laptop toward the vocalist (:^) no extra display available) and enlarged the video window on my laptop and they sang from my screen.

This impersonation did not allow me access to my laptop to cache or cue up the next songs before hand. But my handy dandy back up system (iPad in DL1608 mixer, sweet!!) played while I downloaded tracks completely.

Anyways good Job VDJ team its buggy but it exists and I love it.

The gigs are getting steady and I am booking up for 2013 quickly. I am getting close to being able to afford to do this full time.

Thank you VDJ.

the karaoke files are actualy not provided by VDJ but by ChartBusters/MegaHits and sound like Sunfly will be added. So to get a bulk package you would need to go to MegaHits or Sunfly and buy the files from there. Kind of like a karaoke equalent to itune or beatport for mp3's.

You can change key using the normal keylock feature in VirtualDJ.

The default skin has a knob to change the key up/down or you can map keyboard shortcuts to the actions key_move -1 and key_move +1

You can also increase or decrease the tempo of the song by using the pitch slider as normal (Make sure that you enable keylock first so the the pitch/key of the song does not change as you increase/decrease the tempo.)

Also, for best results and sound quality, go to CONFIG -> Performances and enable the advanced stretching option.

There will be no package option because the karaoke plan is a monthly subscription streaming service. As above, you can cache the songs to disk though to avoid having to keep downloading them. This will also avoid any problems with Internet connection speed and allow you to play the songs while off-line.

I find that when you make any type of pitch or tempo adjustments the lyrics slip out of sync. This is the problem. To be safe I had just load it and not touch it.

That's because you were streaming. Right click the track, and download to cache. Now the track is on your computer, and you have access to it, without downloading again.

I use OTS but like the display of Virtual DJ, can I use my OTS files with any of the Virtual offerings? Are any Virtual software compatable with Windows 8.

Yes to your answer about Windows 8 compatibility , but for ots files... hmm, as far as i know, the ots format is not supported, unless i miss something here.

Here is a list of all the supported file formats ..

The only supported Karaoke File format is the mp3+cdg (zipped or unzipped)

Excuse me, I did not know that OTS used a different format.

Just went to their site, and it appears that they use the highest quality, very bestest, most fabulous, and just down right prettiest file format known to man, but I could'nt tell you what it is, because it was too much to read, before they got to the point.

Rick, OTS uses its own filetype that you have to convert the files to before playing them in OTS and they are not compatable with VDJ.

Sonisphere, do you still experience the music/lyrics sync issues? I had the same issue that you describe but nothing would resolve the issue. I tried caching, ensuring there was no beat lock, not touching anything, etc. but some tracks simply had the issue every time. I even tried on a mac and the issue still happens. For example, 'Sweet Caroline' has the same lag on multiple computers no matter what settings I try. Luckily I was just trying the feature out at a party earlier today and although it was a bit embarrassing, I was able to switch over to the version on my HDD for the tracks that had the issue. Unfortunately it happened enough times that I had to give up on it.

I suspect it is the tracks themselves, not VirtualDJ. Either way though, it's very disappointing. I really wanted to be able to depend on this feature, and it would have been a no-brainer for $20/month especially once the catalog expands with SunFly's collection.

If someone has an explanation, then at least there is hope that there may be a fix in the future, but if no one knows why this happens, then I'll be bummed.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but figured it would be better to continue your conversation rather than start a new one and reference this one.

OTS doesnt actually use their own format.. They take a standard format, and then "re-wrap" it.. Kinda like changing the 'extension' but slightly more involved.

Never understood why a Karaoke software company would want to change a media format from the original to their own non standard format. This makes using it harder for the user to use standard tools or look at your files in a easy to understand way.

Hoster is another one, though they changed to allow you to import standard track information without importing them, but you can't get full functionality of those tracks like you can with a fully imported kma file within the program..

My sync issues seems to e fixed by turning off high performance 48khz conversion. I am going to guess my video card isn't powerful enough to handle he I push Vdj.

Sooner than rely on catched files I would rather just have the files, i.e. by buying them, so if it's not an on the fly service it probable wouldn't be for me.

Also I have an extremely sophisticated system where clients and guests can detail what they want to sing in advance but not all do it so that is when I'd need this service the most when I'm not prepped.

I see nothing wrong with having the Cache, its just you have to stay away from on the fly, its not a 100%. Thats why DJ consultations are so important, so you can get a feel of what the customers want, so when the Gig comes you will have everything ready.

Any inside scoop on when the karaoke lag issues might be fixed? I signed up again for the karaoke plan and the same tracks that had the problem 2 months ago still have the problem. There was a forum for reporting tracks that had this issue so they could be re-encoded, but I don't see any of the reported tracks having been fixed.
It does appear that there are some newer songs in there though.
